re: Not playing with toys "right"

that could be what it is, but i really wouldn't worry at all.
I have a friend that has it, and hes one of the smartest people i have ever encountered.
He just doesn't think the same way as others, analyzes things more, and sometimes speaks his mind before thinking, making him sound rude, when all hes really trying to do is put in helpful thoughts.

I really just think shes way creative, and sees things differently. looks outside the box.

That is what she does.

She is smart as hell, advanced for language and reasoning skills. But she won't let people touch her head, she doesn't play "with" other kids. She gets along with kids great, but she hangs outside of the activity, watching instead of playing. She prefers dark quiet rooms. She cannot tolerate loud noises (vacuum, mixer, motorcycles, etc). She prefers to be solitary.

Which those could all be just quirks and funny things she does. Or it could be an ASD

My six yr old Chloe does things like this. She will take all my canned goods and make a big circle and sit in the middle of them. Ahead lines things up and has been known to take spaghetti put it in the middle of a plate and tear her garlic bread so that it makes a circle around the spaghetti. She is very ocd also. She will take a bath if ahead even third ks dirt touched her and brushes her teeth all the time. I wouldn't trade her for the world though.

This was me as a child, as well. Teachers begged my mom to get me tested for ADD, autism, aspergers, anything, because I just wasn't "right". But I was always the smartest in my class.

Turns out I have bipolar type 1 with schizoeffective disorder, along with a few other things. Not saying your kid has this, but it could be anything.

I definitely wasn't the smartest in my class haha. But I'm technically BPD/Biplaor I with hystrionic personality disorder but I also had disassociate disorder when I was younger (due to a childhood molestation) which accounted for a lot of the overactive imagination.

I def wasn't the smartest in my class, but only becasue I didn't give a crap about school. I was too busy trying to get laid and high.

I'm Bipolar, BPD, panic disorder, and agoraphobia.

I didn't mean to sound braggy, I just wanted to stress to OP that mental disorders don't necessarily equate to intelligence.

Sorry guys. : o

I think when they ask about play, in terms of testing for ASD, they more mean repetative (like stacking everything, or turning over a car and spinning the wheels for a long time). I'd be happy if my kid tried to make his puzzle pieces talk, I think she sounds creative, maybe quirky in a good way. My son has been playing with (okay just putting it up and down) my vaccuum for over half hour. We also had to hide my shampooer because he would drag both the vaccuum and the shampooer together (because I assume they are both cleaning machines,( and he likes to categorize I've noticed), and we kept tripping over them because they had to be in the centre of the room, lol. Even my other two typical kids have played 'weird' before, but all kids are a little odd.

Me too. I was digonosed with Cyclothymia but they changed it to Schizoaffective. I don't know, I am just smurfed in the head.

This is my son in a nutshell!! He was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome in January at 4 1/2 years old! I just think of him as unique and amazing though ;-) I wish you luck!! Just remember no matter what label they give you she is still your amazing child! It can seem so scary and intimidating when they do tests and have you answer a bunch of questions (at least it was for us) so just keep your head up!
