Lol well my mom does that. She calls DD her baby all the time. She just sounds really excited to me. Tell her if it bothers you, though.

Exactly, i don't want everyone thinking he is hers

Like I said it's a first time mom concern being replaced. My mom calls my son her baby, she isn't trying to be his mother. That is her baby, her grand baby and she loves him. She calls and says how's my baby, it's the same thing if she were to say how's my boy (or insert other term of endearment). That baby is hers, her grandchild and she wants to show him off and love him every minute she can because she KNOWS he belongs to you and you get him all the time, she just wants to take advantage of the time you give her with him.

Now if she tries to not listen to your way of parenting then sure I'd be concerned she was trying to play mommy but it doesn't sound like it

My mom calls my son "her baby" all the time. You learn how to shrug it off. Its just a grandmother thing

LoL so true! I would kiss my mom or MIL if they offered to hold one of my babies during dinner time or any other time for that matter.   There's 3 of them... she can take her pick.

Sounds like my MIL lol yea i mean it sounds like shes just an overly excited grandmother, which is completely normal and innocent as ive learned to understand . Our daughter is my MILs first grandchild so she can be overbearing at times, she still does it an my daughters already 1 yrs old! It does get irritating at times and sometimes i feel like im overeacting when i get mad or something but i keep telling myself that our daugther will always know who her mama is and never forget that. My daughter doesnt really like to be held much anymore so i can breathe easier now that MIL doesnt constantly have her in her arms like when she was a baby. We have a baby boy on the way so I'm hoping it will cut the tension and anxiety that i still have lol Then shell have to divide her attention with 2 kids so maybe she'll step back a lil when shes gotta handle 2 kids under the age of 2 at the same time  Hang in there though! ALways remember that you are the mother and if it bugs you that much, maybe just let her know how u feel. it cant hurt anything.

Quoting ValerieGianna:" My son will be 6 weeks old tomorrow, so i'm not sure if the excitement still hasn't worn off or what. ... [snip!] ... weird. I'm not jealous of her, i just wish she would step back a little bit. Does it sound like she is a little obsessed?"

Lucky you. My husbands mom don't give a smurf about my son. He's the first grandkid, that follows their last name. My husband has 2 sisters, so their kids follow the fathers sides last name. My husbands mom loves her 2 daughters kids. I even moved out.
