No one's talking about people putting their fingers IN the baby's mouth. We're talking about touching a baby's hands   And babies can, will, and do put their feet in their mouth as well.

Yeah duh, it's the same outcome. Smurf from people's hands going into a 2 month old's mouth because they just can't fathom the baby getting sick from it. Way to care about a human life right there, the immune system of such a young baby just is not strong enough to face some microbes, so why would she risk her baby getting something that she won't be able to survive just because people 'feel like' touching her baby's hands?

I know multiple people who have had babies die before 9 months old because of sicknesses. It's a serious issue and people should respect the mother and the health of the baby.

So here's my question since you know so much. If someone goes to reach for a childs foot(because you say its so much better even though I child can stick their foot in their mouth too) what if that child reaches out and grabs the persons hand. Is said person supposed to scold the child for having a natural reflex of reaching and grabbing for hands? Sorry but if I tickle a babies foot and they grab my hand Im not going to pull away from that child in fear of harming the baby because god forbid they get my hand germs.

Um take microbiology, then you'll know so much too. It's also a lot of common sense, which too many people lack.

So to answer your question, you have to use some common sense. Obviously she isn't talking about the baby accidentally grabbing someone's hand. She is talking about people purposely grabbing the baby's hand. The world is not in black and white, the point is to avoid as many pathogens as possible from getting in her baby's mouth. She can not possibly avoid everything, so that means that to cut down on how many dangers she is exposed to at this age, people should not touch the baby's hands. (most 2 month olds can not and do not put their feet in their mouth, let's be realistic, so if the baby does put her foot in her mouth, it would be rare)

Not really because, again, sticking your finger in a child's mouth isn't a "normal" thing to do. It's completely normal for family to want to touch a child's hands. Just have them sanatize before, it's not that big a deal. Children put all sorts of things in their mouths. It's a natural thing. Hell, my boobs go in my NEWBORN's mouth for pete's sake. Result's still the same as my boob's been stuffed in a sweaty bra and probably fondled a bit by someone else  

Babies immune systems need to be built up. It's been shown time and again that over sanatizing makes children sicker, not healthier, that their immune systems are not as strong as a child whos parents have never sanatized.

Put your kid in a bubble and move on...

My son constantly had his foot in his mouth, from the time he discovered them at about a month and a half old. Kid put everything in his mouth, hands, hair, cheek, etc. I have a picture of him trying to put my mom's ear in his mouth at a week old.

You just said to sanitize their hands, and then you said that sanitizing is bad. Also, the OP said that they were not washing their hands, so I'm guessing they weren't sanitizing either. I don't sanitize everything my baby touches but I also don't let people touch my baby's hands because that's like asking for him to get sick.

*I*, personally don't feel sanatizing is beneficial. *I* wouldn't have a problem with people touching my children's hands or, god forbid, putting their fingers in their mouths if it were a "normal" thing to do because *I* don't feel that germs are bad.

I was suggesting it to the OP as a way for *her* to feel comfortable with *her* family touching *her* child   I said in one of my very first responses *she* should just carry around a thing of hand sanatizer if *she* had that much of a problem with it.

My situation is a little different. My son is a preemie and I take immunosuppressant drugs. Keeping us healthy means guests have to wash their hands or stay away all together if they are sick.

Do I care if someone gets offended? Absolutely not.
