Weighted blanket?

posted 7th Sep
So for the past week I've noticed my son having these fits at night and when I put all my weight on his blanket around him he seems to calm down. I'm thinking about getting him a weighted blanket. Anyone know of places in australia preferably that I could buy some. I'm searching but yet to find anything.

I wouldn't think that would be safe

They are actually very common for kids that have some conditions as they make them feel safer and comforted among other things.

OP not sure about where in AU.

People use them for sensory issues all the time. They go from the waist down. Sometimes higher up...

Op, IDK where you could get one but those have helped immensely with tossing and turning. The pressure just soothes them.

Here's a link to a. Lycra one. It's inexpensive and serves the same purpose. I got the hand out from my sons occupational therapist.

Good job recognizing that it could help!

Here's an Aussie site http://www.calmingkids.com.au/page/page/5789993.htm

It helps so much for Ala. With her being so early we had to constantly swaddle her as a baby. Once we couldn't (she was too big) we went through many sleepless nights. She would cry for hours
MIL told us about them because she uses them for Alexis who has autism. Worked like a charm!

Thanks, I read a lot.

Which weight would be best do you think? He is 2 1/2 and weighs 12kg. He's only a tiny thing. I think that about 26lbs converted.

standard formula the OTs I worked with here is 10% of a child's body weight plus one pound.

I am going to get my son one soon. We decided on 6 lbs since he is 33 lbs. 4 lbs would probably work for your LO.

I think T would really benefit from one. I put a weighted backpack on him during the day and do joint compressions when he's to amped up. He is such a bad sleeper still
