Ohhhh yeah. NY is very expensive. Moreso in the city-- but everywhere in NY is more expensive than many other states.

Sometimes sahm will do it for less, also people who already watch someone else's child will watch yours too for less and highschool students on weekends or afternoons after school but typically I've found that someone who is watching just your child or children wants at least $8-$10 an hr if not more.

I work part time. My daughter is 11, and I can't afford child care, so my friend watches her for free.

She was a family friend, she didn't want me to pay her at all because she was a sahm and her husband made plenty of money. I paid her out of respect for her and half the time she just bought toys and clothes for DD anyway.

I just started working full time a few weeks ago and am paying my aunt 100 bucks a week to watch my son. That's a lot better than some places I looked first.

I work full-time (anywhere from 40-50 hours a week) but am lucky enough to have family watch DD. 8-2 she's with her Dad's family and 2-5 she is with my Mom.
