Thanks. It was hell dealing with CAS...our worker was hellbent determined to find anyway possible to prove that we were unfit...and it got even worse when I informed her of my pregnancy with my youngest kidlet. It was almost 2 years of constantly defending ourselves, and proving to the system that we are good parents. We fought them on everything, because we were backed into a corner by CAS when we had done absolutely nothing wrong. I am just so glad that it is finally over.
I had more than one bad experience with them...in different cities at that(CAS got involved in my life several times when I was a kid). My sister has had them involved, my aunt, and several other people that I know. None of these people did anything wrong. Some of them had their kids taken away for no good reason. Reasons such as a past history of depression(before they had kids), for their house not being completely spotless, because they didn't take their kid to the doctor for every little sniffle, because of anxiety, or for simply being young parents. I also know people who should have had their kids taken away, but CAS did nothing. For example, my neighbors...they are on drugs(they actually admitted this to me and one of our other neighbors), they neglect their two little boys, and verbally and physically abuse them. I have seen these things with my own eyes, and I have called CAS numerous times, and not once has anything been done about it. I have even called the MP's(we live on base), and still, nothing was done about it. They still have their kids, CAS is not involved, and those little boys are still being treated terribly.
You did the right thing by calling CAS on that girl. Did CAS apprehend her baby? In a case like that, I sure as hell hope they did. And I agree...people like that need to have their children taken away.
I do believe that CAS is needed, but I also believe that the system needs to be rebuilt, and CAS also needs oversight by the obudsman. As it stands right now, CAS is accountable to no one, and that is not right. There wouldn't be as many problems with CAS if they were actually held accountable when they screw up...which they do...a lot. Personally, I think CAS should be run by the government. A lot of people think that CAS is government, but it's not. They are funded by the government, but they are a private organization.
