Child Support and DNA Testing in Ohio

posted 6th Sep
So this might be a dumb question but oh well....

I am not with BD, never will be. He's a liar and cheater, we have a awesome Jerry/Maury story going on. So you can probably guess the story. I think he thinks/hopes I won't make him get involved. My question is do I have to put him on birth certificate do get child support? I was thinking that since he won't be there to sign anything, they will want to do a DNA test to determine paternity. So would they put him on after they determine paternity?

Thanks, sorry if this seems dumb to ask but I've never gone through this before or known anyone really in my situation.

If you dont put him on the BC then you will get a DNA test to prove that he is the father and put him on CS.

I know here in VA he does not have to be on the birth certificate. DNA testing helps if he denies the child is his, but they won't change your child's birth certificate after he/she is born, unless you do it yourself.
Sorry I can't be of more help!

in my opinion

if he is that much of a piece of smurf, why even bother?
Don't put him on anything, don't pursue him. If you think he is just going to blow off your child and not pay anything, just drop it.
It will make your life a hell of a lot easier than crying and stressing about because of how smurffy of a "parent" he is.

True story. Plus here if he's proven to be the father, he could have potential rights to try for any kind of custody, not saying he would do that, but opening that door to someone you don't want in it is never a good thing.

Are you getting State assistance? If so when the baby is born no you don't have to put him on then. The state will make you go after him for CS once Paternity is established, they will amend the BC. (unfortunately.....SD is literally a $ to my son.....)

If you aren't that will be at the decision of the judge, if you push for support that means parenting time and all of that where he will be put on the BC anyways.

So if you don't need the support money don't bother. Save yourself and your child the hassle and heartbreak and stress that whole process will bring for the next 18-20 years.

Yes, I'm on assistance. So they will want to go after him, guess I'll learn more when I';m closed to my edd.

Thanks Ladies =]

Yup. There is no way around it. I know girls who have tried, easiest ways to say it is that assistance isn't free, someone in the equation has to pay for it.

If he isn't in the picture, she can just say she has no idea. It was a one night stand and never knew his name or anything.
That's how a few of my friends have gotten around it.
They never ask about it again.

Ya my friend tried that. They told her to go think and try to get potentinal fathers names, if none are available she is expected to start paying back towards all of this once she is 6 months PP. If she doesn't pay they will garnish her wages and income tax returns.

She stuck to her guns, and they are still garnishing her wages, 5 years later.

It's kind of worth it to not have douche bags in your life lol
I would have done it. I even tried in court.

In a way kinda. But her credit score is screwed. She looks like EVERY single medical bill is in collections and her score is like 575. She can't get a loan, or even open a cell phone plan without a co-signer.

Does that affect everyone...?
Like since Ryan doesn't pay his... does that smurf with his credit score? I didn't know if child support or the money you owe to the state for the birth messes with that...

Ya it's a legit bill. It does pass like 15 hands but he is in collections with CSEA for that kind of stuff, which will show up on his credit report. You would be surprised what will sway it. Cancelling your cell contract early drops your score. Cancelling your health insurance before your renewal period drops it. Switching car insurance providers too much. Switching anything with an extended contract, combining contracts, paying one credit card off with another credit card, ect.
