sciatica pain

posted 11th Sep '06
Is anyone else experciencing constant sciatica pains? I am 18 weeks pregnant and having an extremely rough time. The pain is not a come and go pain. It stays for days on end. Warm bath and heating pad barely takes the edge off. Does anyone have any advice on coping or getting rid of this pain? Thanks.

I don't know what kind of pain you are talking about but I am 13 weeks along and the other night had pain in my lower stomache, like my uterus and it was constant...it went away when i got ready for bed so it lasted about 4 hours...my sister thought it might be gas, but if you know something about a diff. kind of pain i'd like to know abou it!

if what you are talking about is what im thinking about its the pain in your lower back or in your butt...its a nerve and the baby is putting pressure on it...its the sciatic nerve i think thats how you spell it...alot of women i know have had problems with this when they were pregnant...i think its just one of those things we have to deal with...mine is horrible at night...i just have to rub it or use a heating pad or ice...

I know exactly what you are going through. This just started about 2 weeks ago. This constant pain on the left side of my butt. It makes it worse because I work in an office where I sit all day. It's gotten so bad that its hard for me to climb the stairs at night!

I have been trying to walk at lunchtime around the parking lot and have noticed a big difference. Maybe try that. I have a dr's appointment next week and this is one of my topics.

I have noticed that I am having a lot of lower backpain now because of this.

i'm having the same pain. it started yesterday and continued all night and today so far. this morning at around 7:30 the pain woke me up and it hurt so bad that i was in tears. my husband went right to the store and bought me a heating pad. it worked and the pain subsided for about 2 hours. now the pain is back but not as bad. i brought my heating pad with me to work today so that i can have some relief. i have a job that i sit for hours on end. it's not good for me, and not good for the baby so my last day is in about a week and a half. luckily, we can afford for me not to work and just stay home and take care of myself. good luck with all your pains ladies.

I already had leg numbing with my sciatic pain before I became pregnant. Once I became pregnant it almost immediately became worse. A book said it could be because of the hormones released to allow everything to move and stretch. Anyway, I started seeing my chiropractor more often and he relieved a lot of pressure. I also get regular massages (husband is a massage therapist so that does help). I can no longer get deep tissue massages which is what I got before I got pregnant to help but he still puts quite a bit of pressure on my lower back, butt....which is heavenly....and legs. The increased frequency of my chiropractor and lower massage has made my sciatic pain almost completely go away.
Good Luck

I have had it with both of my pregnancies. It affects my left leg only and I am put on tylenol 3 for pain. As for the numbness - mine lasted until 3 months after the birth. I have trouble walking on that leg also.
