20 week ultrasound question...

posted 20th May
Hey ladies. Fast question. I have another ultrasound tomorrow (HOOOORAY!) and I wasnt told if I had to drink a ton of h20 again this time. When I had my first ultrasound at 8 weeks they made me drink so much water that I thought I was going to cry but when I was in the hospital and had to have an emergency ultrasound done they didnt make me drink anything. I dont want to call the hospital and ask because I dont think its like a wicked important live or die situation and lordy knows those people are super busy lol.

Did you all have to drink a lot of water before your 20 week ultrasound?

xoxo

I was told to drink 32 oz an hour before my ultrasound. It's so the u/s tech can see your cervix. If they didn't tell you to, then I wouldn't worry about it.

Yeah last time at 8 weeks I had like specific instructions saying drink a certain amount and do not empty your bladder. This time no one mentioned anything so idk.

usually depends on if they want to measure the baby and etc.. because fuller the bladder better the Organs show and all that good stuff.. Id atelast go with a 1/2 full bladder and see what they say.. bc if its 2 full they wont see what they want and if its not full enough then they will make u drink more.. its easier to EMPTY a bladder tehn fill one

I thought I did so I did but then when I got there the US technician was like
" did you think you had to drink the water again"
and I was like "yeah".
She said it helps to see your cervix in earlier ultrasounds but it wasnt necessary for the 20 weekUS.

So no.

They told me to drink 32oz of water or juice 1 hour before. She said there are certain things that are easier to see with a full bladder. She let me go pee about halfway through when it didn't matter if my bladder was full anymore.

I had to drink 32 ounces in 20 minutes right before I went in. I wasn't allowed to go to the bathroom untill they told me I could.

when i went for my 18 week u/s my tech told me you dont need as muchwater the further along you are. i was told to drink 500mls and whenhe called me in he said i could go to the toilet because it's not nessary to have a full bladder....maybe you could just give them a quick call and ask about it tho because all docs have diff ways of doin things

Oh My you ladies had to drink a TON of water, I barely made it with just 16 ounces, they told me no more than that too because if my bladder was too full itd squish the baby and make things harder to read...
