It's ok, most of us do.

No, I don't condone her attacking anyone, either and I really wasn't being specific, but I don't feel as though her other kids names should have been brought up at all.

I mean, we have CNLs whose kids have names that are FAR from classic and we don't point that out or rag on them about it, I just think the point that it was brought up when that's not what she was asking about isn't really fair, either.

I mean, I love the CNL's, I really, do - I just want to keep the thread as friendly as possible.

I understand. I wasn't bringing up her kids names in a derogatory way, just pointing out that the other two names she had in mind really stuck out next to her other daughters. It def wasn't my intention to piss her off!

No, and I totally agree - but hey - if someone wants to all of a sudden have good taste, I will not stop them.

OP: I still adore both the choices you posted.

That's the thing-- I don't believe anyone was mean (including when they said that they didn't feel that the name "matched" or whatever word was used-- her other kids).

Hell. You've alllll seen my DD's name. Nothing classic about it. If anyone said that a "classic" name I choose didn't match DD's name--- I'd honestly be kind of happy that someone was thinking of DD in relation to her siblings.

The GTFO post is specifically what upset me. I just think the whole thing was kind of silly.

Personally, I have stopped caring about the the kids names sound like together since 3 out of 4 are my step-kids and I did not name them and if SO had it his way, he would give them super cheesy matching names. (NO.....not if it comes out of MY uterus).

Yeah. I hear that. That was.... unnecessary. I mean, I know this post was, too. But I understand what you're saying.

I honestly do not think future childrens' names will be anything like DD's name. And for good reason-- BD helped pick her name, and if I'd chosen alone or with someone else-- she'd have a different name. But she is what she is, perfect, name and all.

I bet I'll feel the same about any of my children--- whatever their names should be...... *off in lala land*

Ha in 2008 when I was pregnant with my son I wanted to name him Blue or Cloud from FFVII and then it went to chase and then Silas and then last minute I chose Sylas or Silas.....and 4 years later I names my little girl Persephone and if I had SOLE say on the name it would have been Mabel.....

everyones name taste changes....christ I almost named my son blue or cloud!

I don't see the big deal for it to be either way, there are gender neutral names. I doubt most people are trying to "surprise" anyone, they just like the name "trendy" or not.

There ARE some names that are unisex - but very few, 9 times out of 10, it's a masculine names being used for females.

YOU may not find the social implications a big deal, but some of us find it disturbing, especially when a lot of the women using this trend scream "feminism" when it's really, really not doing anything for women at all.

You said "I don't see the big deal for it to be either way", which I took as " I don't see why we care".

What I'm referring to (and what I find disturbing) is that people are all for girls being allowed to be masculine, but if a boy wants to be feminine, people get uncomfortable. The people I see advocating the use of "unisex" names are only using them for girls, I don't see any names making their way from the feminine camp into the masculine - it's very, very one sided and I find it sad that people still feel this way.

I wasn't saying I don't see why you care, I was replying to you when you said:

"I wouldn't care if it went both ways, but it doesn't. It's basically just another double standard we put on our children - it's ok to be masculine, but not ok to be feminine. I want to know how many of you using masculine names would name their son Elizabeth or Victoria? I highly doubt any of you would.

Yes - we get it - it's OK for a female to not be super frilly and feminine. But when are we going to start promoting it from both sides"

Perhaps I'm misinterpreting the meaning of your post, but you're saying that people wouldn't put a feminine name on their son or be okay with it in general and I was saying I personally don't see an issue with it.

It is weird to me that some people say if both aren't widely accepted by society that they won't accept it. If you don't see an issue with it either way then why wait until it actually becomes "trendy"? Why tell parents who are naming their females a masculine name now that it's trendy or unattractive just because hordes of parents aren't naming their boys feminine names? (Not necessarily you, just in general).

Ah, ok - I misinterpreted what you were saying.

But thats my thing - I don't think it's going to happen in my lifetime. I discourage people from doing it because it's being done for the wrong reasons. (or...NOT being done for the wrong reasons.)
