Rear-facing laws

Can someone give me a good link to a site that explains the laws for rear-facing? I have always heard that its 1year and 20 pounds before they're aloud to front-face, but the sheriff deputy in my city says that a child can front-face at any age as long as the car seat they're in is being used correctly  

Um what? Definitely never heard of that before but I have no idea

if you go to google, tye in 1 year and 20 lb carseat law and add your state it will pop up. SERIOUSLY that guys a douche. lol

I guess though, it wouldnt be considered "being used correctly" if an rf infant seat was installed FF because it would be considered incorrect

I might be mis-reading this, but does it say that a child who is 1-4 MUST front-face?

No seat in the US allows for FF before 1 year and 20lbs so any forward facing kid under either of these minimums is not in a correctly used seat to begin with. Some seats even have a 1 year, 22lb AND 34" tall minimum for FF.

I know I've heard that that is sort of true. . . Carseats generally can't be used correctly FF before 1 year and 20lbs. THe carseats have weight and age limits that don't allow that. The CHP (CA) just says they have to be properly restrained in the back seat. Since you can't "properly restrain" a child smaller or younger then 20lbs and 1 year forward facing, they need to reach those points.

That's my understanding, but it *IS* sort of confusing honestly.
