Genetic testing???

My son was born with a cleft lip (left side) Polydactyly (left side) also his left ear is a bit lower than the right. Ive seen a whole team of drs & the last one wants me to get genetic testing done because hes concerned since its all on the left side. I have no idea what genetic testing even is. The whole ear thing worries me though. 3 drs have said that its borderline uneven & not to worry & 2 drs who have seemed concerned about it

Genetic testing is to see if it was something that mommy or daddy passed down to baby in the DNA or if it was caused by something else. It helps doctors figure out treatment plans and lets you know if there is a chance of the same thing happening with future babies.

We found out our son has Cystic Hygroma at 19 weeks and we were really pushed to get an amniocentesis and other things like that. It just wasn't for us so we declined. We are waiting until he is born to see if he has any genetic disorders. The results of the amnio would not change our minds about anything so we decided against it. ok. 2 of my brothers have cleft lips so i know where that came from and were not having any more babies. Is the genetic testing a blood test?

It could be a blood test but it is more likely an amnio, which is when they go into your uterus with a needle and take some amniotic fluid and test it. I'm not sure what other methods they have.

Yes, it's a blood test, though some are going for cheek swabs now.

We found out about his lip from my 20 week ultrasound & i also decided not to get the amniocentesis testing. I really hope that your baby is healthy & happy

Oh I'm sorry, I wasn't paying attention. I'm not sure what kind of testing they do after the baby is born. I need to ask my doctor about that too because that's what we have to do.
I'm so sorry lol, I feel like a dumbass now.
I will let you know if I find anything out, I'm going to ask my own doctor what types of genetic testing they do.
