BF Question

posted 20th May '08
I've been BFing for a few weeks now, and this past week it seems my son has been spitting up more than usual. Did any of your babies do this? How normal is this, and is there anything I can do help him not spit up as much. I thought BFed babies didn't spit up as much as formula fed ones...

My son was exclusively breastfed and he threw up A LOT! Several times after every feeding, and not just a little spit up. We're talking, soaking everything.

His doctor said it was reflux, but he never did anything about it. There is medication you can ask your doctor about if you're really worried. I never got the medication for my son and he is 9 months and thriving.

it could be what you're eating... watch what you eat before feeding baby..

Lilian was the same way!! We give her the reflux stuff if she's having a bad day, but she is really spitty up even tho she is breastfed.

Try not eating foods that cause heartburn too, like onions and peppers.

My daughter just started doing this also...just a little spit-up is normal. However, I found that being diligent about burping her helps. She has never been one to burp, but she has suddenly needed to.

His went from a little to alot, but he is hard to burb too. I feel like I am beating the poor boy when I burp him.

Have you been ingesting a lot of caffiene? Sometimes that can be a culprit too. James went through a period from 5 weeks to about 10 of projectile spitting up but it stopped.
