Labour Story:
On Wednesday the 22nd of August I started having BH contractions on and off all afternoon, and they continued all night ranging from 15-5 minutes apart, but by the morning they were gone. The next day the same thing happened but these ones were more painful, but once again the next morning they were gone. This continued on for the next few days leaving me with no sleep from the last few nights, I’d tried all the tricks to get contractions to continue but every morning they just went away. On Saturday I went for a walk in the afternoon to try to get them to continue as they were getting painful at this point, come 10pm they were consistent and painful and 2-3minutes apart, so we headed up to the hospital at about midnight. Once we got there and I lay down to get checked they pretty much stopped, the midwife told me that this could continue for days before true labour kicks in. The positive side was that our hospital was on bypass to the city an hour away so If I was in true labour then I wouldn’t be giving birth in my town, unless I was 8cm or more or I waited until 9am that morning. So we went home and went to bed to try and get some sleep, I could still feel contractions coming every 10ish minutes but they went back to feeling like uncomfortable BHs.
At about 4am I was feeling strange and uncomfy and just couldn’t sleep, I rolled over in bed and felt/herd what I thought was a bone popping, then I started to feel something leaking out of me, I jumped up and ran to the toilet just quick enough to not soak my bed/floor. I called out to my partner that my waters had broken and asked him the time, it was 4:05am on Sunday morning, I started having extremely painful contractions right away and they were 3 minutes apart. My partner called my mother to come stay with the kids, and we hung around the house for awhile because I didn’t want to be transferred to the city to have my baby.
I was aiming to wait until 6am before we headed to the hospital, but my contractions were getting stronger and stronger, I started feeling the baby’s head move down during each contraction and told my partner that we couldn’t wait any longer, so we headed off at about 5:30am. The 5 minute drive was the worst, and once we got there the midwife took us right over to the birthing room to check if it was my waters that broke, she didn’t even bother testing them since my pad was pretty much dripping from it (lol). After about 2 more contractions (and my sister arriving just in time) I told the midwife I needed to push, she started running around trying to get everything ready and almost yelling at me to get on the bed.
I breathed through most of it because I didn’t want to tear again, and only pushed 2 times before her head was out, one more push and my baby Girl was born at 5:56am on Sunday the 26th of August after only being at the hospital for about 20 minutes and avoiding being transferred J
She was placed straight on my chest and once she stopped screaming I was able to breastfeed her as long as I wanted. She was weighed and dressed then I fed her some more.
The support I got from my amazing partner was all I needed to bring our baby girl into the world happy and healthy and 100% naturally (for the 3rd time, go me!)
I must say, I much prefer my 20 hours of labour with my 1st the my 2 hours of labour with her, but she is worth every bit of it. I only stayed in the hospital for 12 hours after she was born and was home that day. I’m loving my little family more and more every day!
