mamas with kids/toddlers with ADHD- advise needed

posted 3rd Sep
My daughter is 2, She will be 3 in october.

She has behavior & sleep problems.
She has seen a dr for this, her dr said there wasnt much she can do right now..until she is 3.

I am waiting to sign papers for her to go to a special school. They have shrinks come in and do things with the kids & such.

Her Dr's RN nurse told me tonight (seen her in walmart) to try 1mg of melantinon. At 10pm i gave her 1mg its 1:30 and she isnt asleep.

I really need advise from someone who goes thru this everyday.

They diagnosed my son at age 5 (hes 13 now) but honestly hes struggled with adhd his whole life. He has been in everything from private school, to special ed, to therapists, to meds and off meds. Its a struggle you just gotta try different things out, research and find out what works for you personally and your child.

Good luck!

my son is 6 turning 7 this year. and has ADHD, bi polar, and ODD. and he is very very much a hand full. he does have sleeping pills.. but because those pills do not work through the whole night I also get the 3mg melatonin. which helps alot. my life has been so much easier since he sleeps when he needs to and sleeps all the way through the night. I remember when I told the doctor about the problems I was having to when he was 3. people just told me well he is just a kid. like I was making it all up in my head. well I finally got help 2 years later. Oh well still glad I got help I guess even though it would have made my life way much easier if they helped sooner. I hope you get the help you need.

Yeah people that dont have ADHD kids dont nderstand one bit. They say thats just a kid for you. Smurf spend ONE day just ONE day at my house and see what you think.

When she dont get what she wants right when she wants it....in public people look at me like im a smurfin idiot. I hate it so much...but thats my child, i love her & just b/c she acts the way she does sometimes dont mean im gonna keep her locked up in the house all the time.

just thought of something. even with his sleeping pills he fights sleeping. so I make sure there is nothing to distract him from going to sleep. no tv, no light, no nothing. all he can do is just close his eyes and try to sleep

My son is the same way. It is 4:14 a.m. and he is still wide awake. He is not on a sleeping pill yet but it has been suggested. I haven't really found anything to help him sleep.. But I agree with above, some people just don't understand. It is hard to find a babysitter for my son because he is a handful. The smartest, politest 6 year old I ever met but, it's like he drank 10 5 hour energys' and is so in go mode.

I always get the same remarks, he is just a kids or now a days every on thinks their kids has ADHD. But then when they sit around him for a day the first thing they say is I don't know how you do it.

I'm in pretty much the exact same situation. James will be 7 in December. Last December he was diagnosed with ADHD and ODD, we're taking him back to the therapist in a few weeks to get the rest diagnosed as he probably also has aspergers and/or bipolar. He's currently on Concerta 54 mg a day and while it helps his ADHD alot, he still has other issues. I wish I would've gotten help sooner too. I hate when people meet him for 5 minutes and think I'm nuts for having I'm on meds. I'm like, if you lived with him before you'd understand. Plus before the meds he was failing in school and in trouble almost daily. Now he gets perfect scores and is never in trouble at school. I think the meds help him sleep too. He's in bed at 8:30 every night and up at 7:30 in the morning.
