I am terrified every second....
posted 1st Sep
I am so scared of my son dying of SIDS. It's almost paralyzing. My mother lost two sons to it and my boyfriends sister lost a son as well. I have a healthy 6 1/2 year old son already and didn't sleep for a year basically when I had him I was so scared. I just had another son and this time around it seems to be a little worse...the fear that is. I know all the precautions, risks etc but I don't know how to let go of the fear and just live.

If you get an angel monitor, it should help ease your mind a bit.

I don't know either, I'm the same way. If you have a little extra money you can buy an Angel Care monitor.

What is an angel monitor

angel care. Its a monitor that comes with a sensor that you lay under the mattress and if the baby stops breathing an alarm goes off..we used it for both our boys and its soooooooo amazing...works great, and it helped ease our worry a bit.

The angelcare monitor is AMAZING! babydepot inside burlington sells them for cheaper..and you can usually find a 15% off coupon is babytlak or american baby magazines. but babies r us sells them too.
i have one..and i wouldnt have slept without it....it detects your baby's breathing..while also being a regular monitor. an alarm will sound if no movement is detected. you can read reviews on amazon.com..there stories of it saving babyies lives.

ahh yes, the fear, smurfing sucks, i know what you mean
it can really ruin the whole experience!
in my case, after a month at NICU, i was scared smurfless to bring them home.
i used the snuza monitor. same idea, alarm goes of if baby stops moving, but you put it on their diapers, so it's portable, not just in the crib.
here is the link: http://www.amazon.com/Snuza-Portable-Baby-Movement-Monitor/dp/B002WLGV08/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1346561017&sr=8-2&keywords=snuza
word of warning: you'll get false alarms. the thing will lose contact, and the snuza will alarm, sometimes once a night. i know they were false alarms cause I'd be feeding, and the thing would go off!
one thing to do is to fold the diaper, and so it's tighter.
for SIDS, listen. It's 1 to 1,000 odds, very low, very unlikely, especially if you're doing all the right things.
Don't smoke around the baby, don't fall asleep with the baby.
Good luck, dear, I know what you're going through. Amazingly, it's gotten much better for me. As they've fattened up and I've grown more confident, I no longer need the snuzas

I am the same way, I'm terrified of house-fires and not getting to them in time (so they both sleep in my room), I'm scared of them dying in car accidents (so I refuse to bring them in the car unless absolutely needed and even then I make appointments during times of less traffic) I'm so scared of SIDS. They say I have post tramtic stress (my youngest has almost died 3 times now).
But I don't agree, because I was like this was my first (full term healthy baby), too.
The SIDS fear does goes away when they are about one but then more worries come. I love being a mom, love, love, love it but the worrying about them all the time is stressful. I don't really have any answers for you but I hope your children and all children live long, very long happy lives.
