bleeding ear?? help!!

posted 1st Sep
my son is 10 months old and when he got up this morning the side of his face was covered in dried blood, it was coming from his ear.. there was no blood on his fingers at all so i know he wasnt digging in his ear... he hasnt been pulling at his ears or anything.. i called the pedis nurse line and she said take him into urgent care to get him checked out because it might have been an ear infection that ruptured... but i dont have a way there until SO gets back with the truck

anyone deal with this?? he has never been sick so im worried... he doesnt act sick or like he is hurting or anything though.... help?!?

TIA

Just keep an eye on him, and when your SO comes home, go ahead and take him in. BUT, if at any point you see any changes, I'd call a cab or an ambulance or SOMETHING to get him seen. Especially if you see more blood come out of his ear at any point.

A warm compress and an infant pain reliever might help. My son had an ear infection that ruptured once.   Do you have anyone else that you could call to give you a ride?

do you think it couldhave been an ear infection that we didnt catch? he has done this once before but our old pedi said that he had probably just been digging in his ear and wiped the blood off

The same thing happened with my youngest daughter. Turned out to be a ruptured ear drum from repeat ear infections. It healed on its own but it still should probably be checked out to make sure there is no hearing loss. I also could not tell with my little ones when they had ear infections until it got really bad. They had no fevers, played just fine, did not pull at their ears, they acted perfectly healthy.

It very well could have been. I had lots of ear infections as a kid (this is still a problem I have as an adult), and my mom said she wouldn't know I was sick or anything until they got REALLY bad.
