Getting BC from PP

posted 1st Sep
So my insurance decided to stop covering the only BCP that actually helped me. I'm on BC for cysts, painful periods, my skin flaring up and just crazy hormones. The one I was on helped so much. I felt normal, no pain, my period wasn't heavy and I didn't have any PMS like I usually do. I'm taking one that isn't doing smurf. I wouldn't even trust it to keep my protected. My pain is horrible. It's sharp. My skin is even starting to break out again.

If I go with my old prescription, which I have 5 more refills according to it, will they be able to fill it for a low cost? Or will they only do it if my insurance approves it? I have medical assistance if that matters.

PP isn't a pharmacy. They will have to go by their own scripts.

My pph wouldn't fill a script I had from my midwife because it went against their policies. Apparently a woman who suffers from migraines cannot be given estrogen.

Would they prescribe me something? Like if I went in and got checked out?

I'll have to call on Monday. Maybe they can figure out what's wrong. This new pill just isn't working. I'm also gaining weight. The other pill I lost a lot of weight on. I just felt like my body was back in balance.

I went through them to continue getting bc when I lost my insurance. They will have to do an exam, but then can prescribe something for you that their pharmacy fills.

I went in there wanting a specific pill (mini pill), and that is what I told the nurse practioner. She prescribed exactly what I asked for. Funny thing is, my obgyn prescribed the name brand pill, but my old insurance covered the generic. Pp ended up giving me the name brand pill, not the generic, go figure. Hopefully they will carry the pill that worked for you. Finding a good pill that works for your body is a pain in the ass! Good luck!

I hope so too. It was a generic one. And all the other ones with the right amount of hormones and everything also aren't covered. It's for a medical reason and my doctor said I can argue it with Access but it might take a few months. I have documented proof that I was getting better on it. My cysts went down a good amount on them. They think I might have other problems with the lining of my uterus and it can cause pain but they'd have to go in and test. But the pill helped they the figured it was all I needed. I just hate the stress. Also, me just freaking out randomly sucks too.

I'm sorry. That sucks that they can just decide one day that they want to quit covering a medication. Insurance companies are a joke.

If pp doesn't offer the pill you need, since it is generic, would it be a possibility to pay out of pocket for a few refills until you tried to fight it out with the insurance company? Just so you don't have to endure any possible side effects with a new pill.

I can't afford it. I barely have any money left after bills. I'm spending so much on gas now because of college and I'm not going to see my refund checks until November, which I was relying on getting them sooner because of gas and I need a new laptop. But it's state insurance. They don't care that I can't afford to be on my own plan and they have to make cuts even thought the one I'm on now is more expensive than the old one. I pay nothing but I've looked up how much they are without insurance.

I am not really familiar with how state insurance works, but it sounds like a pain in the ass. I really hope pp carries the pill you need, it really sounds like you could use a break!
