re: Too Much Weight Gain???

posted 20th May
I think it all depends on your doctor. With my first, I was 105 lbspre-pregnancy. When all was done, I was 182 lbs. I ate everything!! LOL I know I shouldn't have but I was ALWAYS hungry. It didn't help that my mom owned a restaurant at the time. Everytime I went in I gained at least 8 lbs!!The day I found out I showed which was only about 4 weeks!! My doctor was always telling me to cut back but I never did. I did lose most of it but it took about 8 months and it was hard work and eating healthier. I did breast feed but that didn't help one bit. My second pregnancy was so much different. I was so sick (never actually got sick) I couldn't even look at food - even tv commercials!! I was 137 when I got preganant and 180 when I had her. I really gained it at the end. I wasn't able to really eat anything until I was about 5-6 months. I didn't even show until then. That doctor said eat what you want and worry about it in the end. He told me I had to be happy about myself and that's what mattered as long as the baby was healthy too.

Thank you. We decided to have professional photos done. Some say it is a waste of money but in our situation we waited so long to get here that we really wanted to commorate the occasion.

I'm in the same boat as babytee. In between dr. appt's I gained 9 lbs and then 7 lbs.Because I was overweight prior to, the midwife told me that I had reached my max. weight gain for the pregnancy at the last appt and I was only 16 weeks!

I am bound and determined NOT to gain anymore weight before my next appt., which is this upcoming Thursday and I've put on 3 lbs so I have to get them off within the next 2 days. I feel too fragile due to my husband breaking down my already low self-esteem and cannot deal with anymore criticism from the dr's office, but I too have wondered if it's safe to lose weight while pregnant.

There is no max. You are going to continue to gain weight as your baby grows. They just don't want you thinking you need to eat every doughnut, cheeseburger or pint of ice cream that crosses your path. Gain at a steady pace and eat healthy food. Unless you are showing signs of distress you are fine.

DO NOT DIET WHILE PREGNANT!! You will rob your child of needed nutrients!! Walk each night if you feel the need. Don't run take a walk around the neighborhood or something. Just do not diet or "work out" to lose weight.

When my doc told me to watch my weight, I really did...I only ate when I was hungry, which suprisingly wasn't that often and made healthier choices. She was happy the next time I went back and only gained the 3 pounds. But, I have a feeling she's gonna say something this week since I've put some on in the last two weeks. But, i feel great! I have no health issues, I'm not even having much back pain. As long as you feel okay and are still healthy, I think it's fine. As someone told me the other day, "ahhh....your weight is fine! You'll just have to work hard after the baby to get it off." Which is FINE with me! I lose weight very easily, so I'm not worried.

I had a really bad experience with my last doctor and I ended up switching to a different one at 30 weeks. She told me to go to Weight Watcher's and I'd only gained 20 lbs at the time! I dont think ANYONE should tell a pregnant lady to lose weight. You gain it for a good reason, to nourish your baby's growing body. Of course everyone who is pregnant should be eating right so their baby can get the best foods, and exercising to stay healthy: but trying to lose weight is out of the question.

If your doctor is damaging your self esteem, you should find a new one. I did and it has made SUCH a difference. Plus, you don't want someone who makes you feel self conscious to be in the delivery room with you, do you??

I gained 59 while pregnant and my midwife did say stuff to me a few times, which really hurt.

Unless your weight gain is going to cause severe harm to you or baby, don't worry about it.

It has been 10 1/2 months for me and I am only 8 pounds from pre-preg weight. I don't think me gaining 59 while pregnant has made it any moredifficult to lose.

It it very hurtful and they treat you like a complete idiot "you need to watch what you eat.. make smart food choices..." Well.. DUH!

I started to put on weight because I was going through the 'change' right before I got pregnant. I worked out 4-5 times a week and just wouldn't lose weight. I think that because I'm older, it will be tougher to lose the weight after the pregnancy. I had all of my other children in my early 20's and this pregnancy has been a LOT tougher in my old age. ;0)

Well I am 32 wks and have gained 35 lbs. My doc hasn't really said anything tome, but he said the norm is b/w 25-35 lbs. This is my first child so I'm not sure what to do to keep my weight in check. I really don't eat bad, I just don't deny myself something I really want like chocolate or french fries. But I'm starting to get worried b/c just since my last appt I have gained 4 lbs. I've tried walking but with work, I don't have time but once or twice a week if that. Any suggestions on how to keep the weight from getting out of control. I know the baby is going to really starting gaining the weight and that really scares me.
