Her thumbs won't straighten.

Not sure if this is even the right place to post this.


I noticed the other day that both my daughters thumbs are bent and they won't unbend. The one on the right I moved around and after a while it just automatically "shifted" back into place. I tried the same thing with her left hand but it isn't going anywhere. She doesn't show any pain at all when I touch it and she hasn't had any trauma to it that would have broken it or anything like that. It's been 3 days now and her right thumb is back to normal and hasn't gone back to how it was but her left one is still stuck.


I did a google search and trigger thumbs is what I found.


Has anyone else experience this kind of thing?

My son had trigger thumb. When it is "triggered" you can NOT straighten it. He had the surgery and has not had a problem since.

Yeah, that's what it looks like right now and it won't budge out of that position. The other one though was stuck but after some maneuvering I was able to get it to straighten back.

It will probably lock back up and the one that is "stuck" now will straighten out. My sons thumb would do it every once in a while but started happening more often.

When did they say they would do surgery. I read that it's suppose to fix itself around 5 years old and if not then they do surgery?

My son had the surgery when he was 5, his was getting worse. I don't quite understand how it repairs itself though.

Also, my son never said it hurt him. I think it just annoyed him.

I just know that I read about this one woman's story and how the doctor told her that it was something that was suppose to fix itself and if it didn't then she would need surgery.

Oh okay. Well it isn't a life threatening surgery and you don't have to do it. How old is your DD?

She's only 16 months old

Yeah, she is still pretty young.
