HELP .

They'll probably wait to see how she does over the next few days to give you a better estimate. Being born that early, they may want to watch her for a while. Better safe than sorry and congrats!

congrats on your baby, OP!
as to homecoming, in my (limited) experience, babies go home closer to 36 weeks, rather than due date
Drs & nurses say "due date" because that's usually waaay past their expected discharge, and so they'd rather you were pleasantly surprised than disappointed.
3 things have to happen for your baby to go home:
1. breathe on her own
2. maintain her body temperature (meaning, she has to be in an open crib, rather than the isolette)
3. she has to eat on her own and gain weight steadily
some hospitals have a minimum weight, but i think that's rare. these days, they just have to be eating on their own, no tubes
good luck, OP! better get ready, she'll be home before you know it.
and DON"T BUY ANY PREMIE CLOTHES
she'll outgrow them by the end of the drive home from the hospital

aww /; well i know for a fact that my baby has no trouble breathing & they had her in the open crib at first but they said they put her in the isolette so she could be warmer. they didnt really say she needed it. ? shes begining to show interest on eating. & she was sucking on a pacifier earlier. the ladies in there make it seem like shes going to stay in there forever ): i want her out of there already. they say she could be in there up to 3 weeks & i dont think she needs it like most babys. & omg thanks on the not buying premie clothes. i was actually thinking about it too . i was about to go shopping for premie clothes tomorrow :p

most preemie clothes are for up to 18in & 5 or 6lbs and under...thats a hefty size for 34wks
how long was she?

haha i know! its good though that she weighs atleast 5 instead of 3 or 4 lbs. she was 17 inches long

That's a good size, my daughter was 5lb 11 at nearly 39 weeks lol. Congrats hope you can take her home soon
I bought a few prem size bits and pieces but don't go nuts and buy a new wardrobe.. Aura was 47cms (I don't know inches) and she's 3 weeks now and starting to grow out of her onesies with feet in them.

I had my little girl on September 1st, Mackenzie, she was born at 35 weeks and weighed 5lb 14 oz and eventhough her weight dropped down to 5lb 4 oz they sent her home with me on september 3rd. So I agree with some of the other ladies that they probably say the due date just so that you are dont gets your hopes dashed each day that she doesnt get to go home. Good Luck with your little one.
