For a friend with an autistic daughter

Okay, so my friend has an almost 3 year old daughter with autism.
She's really at her wits end and needs some help/advice.
Her daughter is biting her, hitting her, and tearing up her stuff. She doesn't understand time-outs, and doesn't respond to taps on the butt. She can't get her to stay in her crib.
What can she do that her daughter can understand?

Therapy is the only way really to deal w/ autism! :/

Excuse my ignorance but how early on are kids diagnosed as autistic?

My son is 9 and autistic, although he's never ever been violent so I don't completely know what to say about that other than she needs to take her to a developmental pediatrician to get information about resources available to her and to learn some coping techniques. There's a very large chance the child also has some sensory issues that no doubt, instigate the tantrum episodes and for that I know there are a number of techniques to use to help stablize them.

For some, as early as infancy - though to my understanding, that is rare.

My cousin has very violent outbursts with his autism. Has she spoken to his doctor? There is medication to help ease the emotions but that would be her choice on if she wants to medicate her child (my aunt and uncle waited till he asked for them himself) Otherwise its just something that happens.. And therapy may be her only option.

I doubt she'd want to medicate her. She's not even 3 yet...
I'm telling her she needs to talk to the doctor and see what can be done.

Yes I assume it is easier diagnosed later as toddlers,,

My cousin wasn't diagnosed with it until he hit the age of 6 but had it for a few years before that(his parents were in denial even though we could all tell..)

I guess it was hard for them to accept the truth but I think they help their kid more if they learn more about the condition and how to treat them and help them.
