Sensory Processing Disorder

Okay, so we saw a neurologist today and he is suspecting my son (2 yrs old) has this. He wants him to get evaluated. I have to call a place called "alta." He mentioned "behavioral therapy"... what is that exactly? Did the therapy help your child?

What were the signs that your child had SPD? My son's main symptom is head banging (he's been doing it since he was 9.5 months).

Did your child get an MRI? (he's ordering one for my son, my husband is completely against it  )

I have SO many questions... any info would be helpful!

Well, the head banging (self harm) is the number one thing that concerns us. But when he was a baby, he cried constantly and was rarely ever content. He has other small signs like difficulty sleeping (he wakes up frequently throughout the night), and he throws tantrums a lot... but those things don't really concern me that much though, because they seem like normal toddler things, ya know?

DD (5 yrs old) has SID (sensory integration disorder) she has a lot of "triggers" that she has some problems with.

- Anxiety (she has it all the time)
- Loud noises
- Brushing or washing hair
- Brushing teeth
- Letting doctors/ nurses touch her for exams, ect.
- No band aids. They make her melt down.
- No verbal praise - she says it's too loud and hurts her ears
- Tags on clothing need to be taken off
- Socks need me to be on JUST right or she has a fit


Hmm..... there are others... i'm probably missing.

DD is also sees a behavioral and developmental pediatrician. She has seen her one time.

She saw a neurologist also who ruled out needing a CT scan or MRI. She now sees a psychologist and a psychiatrist for her anxiety. AND she sees OT in school for SID.

Whew, too many doctors.
