congrats on the adoption. It makes me smile that a baby born with the odds stacked against him is at home with a loving and caring family   sounds like you guys are doing an incredible job!!

But, stomach to belly ? Lol

He's doing great for a 6-8 month old baby (you didn't list his age)
My oldest, healthy full-term baby was almost 8 months before she could fully sit up and started crawling a few days later.
My youngest (29 weeker) is now 5 months corrected and can just about sit up.
A good way to help baby:
-sit on the floor with baby between your legs, move babies arm to your leg to show him you are there for support. Put both his arms in front of him to the side to teach him how to use his own hands for support.
Also, you can probably get him into the NICU follow-up program, if you haven't already done so.. they have great play ideas for babies to help them learn. Although my baby is right on track for developmental, she is 6 months ahead on learning/problem solving. I think the NICU program really helped in showing me great ways to play with her/teach her.
