How long after your water broke...

posted 19th May
For those ladies whose water broke on their own before labor...
How long after your water broke did you start feeling contractions?
I felt a small gush and thought maybe it was my water, but it might have just been discharge, but then I laid down and when I got back up 10 minutes later, I had a significantly larger gush. It soaked my pants a little.. But I'm not having any contractions.... Is that bad or weird?
Or does it sometimes take a bit for them to start up?

I started having painful contractions right away and my son was born four hours later. It would have been sooner, but the doctor gave me an hour to rest after my epi.

Actually mine broke in the middle of the night BUT I didnt realize it was my water because it was a slow leak....well anyways at 7:00pm the next day my mom MADE me go in because my panties kept getting wet....well sure enough it was my water! I guess I wasnt even feeling my contractions, in fact I never did until after they started the pitocin, even tho the screen pulled them! Anyways they had to rush me to L&D, start emergency antibiotics because its dangerous to not go in within 4 hours after it breaks! After a hour of antiobiotics they starte dthe Pitocin, 5 hours later Arieanna was ready to be pushed out! Good luck hun but if it is ur water u should go in! Take care hun and good luck!!

The same thing happened to me.. my water broke in the middle of the night, and I wasn't having contractions (that I could feel anyways). I called L&D and was told to come in right away. They started me on pitocin an hour after I got there...

YUP! I didnt feel them either....never until I was in actual full blown labor! They even pulled that I was having them at my 36 week stress test but I couldnt feel a thing!

I wasn't having contractions when my water broke either. Mine was kind of like a slow leak too. It felt sooooo gross! I think it wa about two hours until I started feeling contractions.

If your water breaks, I was always told to go straight to L&D because it's possible that the umbilical cord can slip out some before the babies head, and once the head goes down, cutting off the circulation to the baby.

My water always broke after I was in labor, but since it did break shouldn't you go to L and D now? I think after it breaking you have to have the baby within like 48 hours.
