Paragard

posted 27th Aug
So here's the deal...This is my 3rd month using paragard.. I have gained 15 pounds within this time period and I am now beginning to experience frequent headaches, stomach aches, and mild cramping. I've been having what I think are periods, although they are so light that a tampon is not needed, pantiliners work just fine. This may be TMI, but I have so much discharge (daily) that it soaks through my pants.. is this normal??? I'm not really sure what to think about this...
what are your thoughts??

I never had any symptoms with the Paraguard. I haven't heard of it causing symptoms, but guess it would be possible being a foreign object in your body and all. I had similar symptoms with Mirena, but totally blame those on the hormones.

I had horrible reactions to Paraguard that didn't start to get better until I had it removed. Weight gain was one of them, as were headaches and horrible body acne (which I never get normally). Though unlike you I had no discharge and had regular cycles that were incredibly heavy. I would talk to your provider.

ETA: I finally took it out when my monthly cycle started having copper in it...

I wonder what causes those symptoms in you (OP) and Nichole, since it's hormone free. Man I sure hope I don't have that problem when I get mine...I can't use hormonal bc because of smurf like that. This is like my last option lol. Good luck op I hope it gets better or you can find something better.

I assume it was a reaction to the copper that did it to me. Nothing was confirmed though. I was so disappointed because I also can't take any hormones so it was really my last option besides sterilization as well..

I'm not positive...But I doubt that I am because I continue to have periods.

the bleeding u described doesnt sound like an actual ''period''.....periods w/paraguard are usually very heavy and painful for the first several months.

Oh dear.. :/ Scary scary.. I have a 4 month old.. I was told paragard would be a wonderful BC option because it is "over 99% effective..and there's no daily hassle".. Let's hope I'm not!!

i had a mc w/the paraguard......and since sperm can live for up to 5days u can end up pregnant from sex u had before the paragusrd was inserted....most docs prefer to insert it when u have your AF to make sure no chance of pregnancy but when u get it ppd and are nursing they just have to take the chance   keep us posted.
