Help!!DD's father want to change her last name

posted 27th Aug
I'm a single mom i have never been married and both of my kids have my last name. my youngest's father wants to change her last name to his or hyphenate it...i really hate hyphenated names i think it's confusing and makes it neither of our names. I want her to have my name. i think it's best since i'm the custodial parent that's why i gave her my name... at birth i was the only legal parent with the right to name her. i live in WA i'm not sure how the laws work here... when i look it up everything comes up how to change from the fathers name to the mothers..has anyone been through this? how did it play out in court when you didn't agree to the name change? i need advice...i plan of fighting it regardless... i just want to know what to expect.

Hmm my friend Desi went through this, she just fought it, and the judge awarded her. She didn't have to change DD's last name was very happy. I'll see if she's on BG, if she is, I'll link her or have her PM you

If u want to change it back to urs the father has to agree.

My DS has my last name because my BD has nothing to do with him and denies him...

My DD has SO name and if we get married i will have SO adopt him.

thank you so much!!! it's hard to find info on this... most cases are women trying to change the name from the fathers to their maiden name after they break up or divorce

U can do it but you have to pay for it... I personally would not do it in less it is court ordered.

i won't willingly change it...he will have to take me to court...i just want to know if anyone has been through this...and how it played out for them...i know it's hard to change from the fathers last name to the mothers...but i feel like i will be easier for him to have her name changed from mine to his...because people consider it tradition to have the fathers last name.

I believe both parents have to consent to change the name. If you say no.. The answer is no.
