Learning how to crochet

posted 27th Aug
Ive been dying to learn how to crochet! For those of you who taught yourselves how did you do it? I've thought about looking up videos on YouTube because I learn better visually but I'm worried I won't be able to catch on. What helped y'all the most?

I dunno I'm thinking of picking up a book about it. I wanna make my LO's some cute hats for the winter.

I find it hard to learn from videos, just because I'm a tactile person, I like to have someone teach me. Someone taught me the basic crochet steps in just a few minutes, and then I taught myself how to knit (with much frustration!)

Crochet for Dummies is pretty good.

What helped me most was having my step mom sit down with me and go through the basics. If you don't have someone to show you, I really do recommend Crochet for Dummies.

I thought about that too! I went to Walmart one day and they only had one little bitty book on it. I don't know where they would sell anymore. Maybe at a craft store like hobby lobby or michaels?

Yeah I don't have anyone to show me how, I wish I did though! I've never read any of the books for dummies, I'm gonna have to look into that.

I bought a kit that was *supposed* to be easy with it's step by step instructions. Yeah... those cute little blue and white booties are still sitting in hypothetical heaven and are probably never coming down. I just couldn't do it, no matter how many times I read the instructions

I'm trying to learn as well since my baby will be born in the winter so I want to crochet a blanket and keep her cozy. I tried YouTube and that was a FAIL lol too fast couldn't get it and I can't ask questions. SO I'm getting my friends Mom to teach me in person and also to knit since I have both tools. My friend got me the little book in Wal-Mart you're talking about but, it still doesn't work I learn visual and hands on.

They really are great! At least that one is. Also, hats are some of the easiest things to make. You can easily make cute animal ones too once you get the hang of it. Check out Amazon if you can find one at a book store. I get a lot of my crochet books there. Etsy has some good patterns too, but. I've found some are hard to read/not very clear.

I have her knitting book!   It has basic crochet, but my grandmother taught me how to do both. I've watched a few YouTube videos on how to do certain things, and they helped a lot.
