INDUCTION??

posted 19th May
i've seen a lot of people posting about how they have an induction date set. or how they are getting induced. and i was wondering why some of you are getting induced before ur due ? im 38 weeks today and my doctor hasnt metioned it.. is this something i should ask about tomorrow at my appt.? what are the reasons they induce before 40 weeks?

They get induced due to a big baby or a medical reason. pretty much that's it.

For problems associated with the babies health or the mom's health....SOME docs will do it at the request of the parents because of some circumstances like a picked date or what not but not offten! my doc made me wait until 42 weeks...my water naturally broke the night before my induction date tho, lol i delivered literally 3 hours before my schduled time to go in ; )

some dr wont do inductions unless Medically ness. like high BP/ obvious fetal distress.. and some drs will do it at 39wks .. Im 38w 1 and my dr said if i make it to 39wks he wont have a problem with inducing me. but im already 3cm dia so its pretty much pointless .. but i see him today at 2 so im HOPING he ll just send me to L&D.. but then again.. knowing what im in for with Labor.. im kinda not lol.. you can ask you dr.. esp if youve had HUGE babies before..sometimes thats enough for them 2 do it.

my doctor likes to do it to make sure he is available to deliver. he lives pretty far from the hospital i know so i'm sure that plays some sort of a role in him always offering to do inductions.
he induced my daughter at 37 weeks 3 days and i guess it was b/c he thought she was going to be huge and she weighed 7lbs 10oz. but he first brought up induction at my 35th or 36 week appointment.
this time he offered to do an induction and we have until wednesday at our appointment to decide. i am not comfortable with someone else delivering my baby so i will have to see. he is the main doctor in the practice but in the last few weeks he just added another doctor and he also has a midwife but my thinking is i am paying for a doctor not a midwife i want him to be there the whole time. i don't mind if she does some things but i would prefer if he did the rest.

they usually just do it for medical reasons...like fetal distress, high blood pressure, diabetes, or fetopelvic disorder (baby is too big to pass through mothers bones)...i go for an ultrasound tommorrow cause they think my baby will be too big by the time my due date comes...we will see...but if she is they will probably induce me or offer a c-section..i do not want the c-section...but if u go 2 wks past ur due date they will probably induce you.

It just depends on the dr. My friends dr. induced her 1 week before her due date and his reasoning was so the baby would have less chance of going to the bathroom in the womb and getting sick. But I went 1 week and 2 days over my due date before getting induced and my baby was just fine

My baby is supposed to be 9.5-10 pounds, but the doctor won't induce me. If I go to my due date, I am going to have a c-section. It is no longer advisable to induce early for most reasons because there is always a risk of the baby not being mature yet or not being ready. It used to be common place to induce 2-3 weeks ahead for large babies or for the mother or doctor's convenience, but due to liabiliy issues, a responsible doctor may no longer want to do this.

a friend of mine had her labor induced only because her due date was 06--06-06 and she didn't want to take the chance of having her baby born on that day. Her doctor induced her on 06-05 instead.

I joke with her all the time that the devil is mad at her for taking his child. And it's so funny because she got pregnant due to not having birth control during Hurricane Katrina. Her son is known as the Katrina baby! We call him that because HE LOVES TO LOOT! Purses, bags, anything--he'll take something right out of your hands.

My doctors don't do it unless a medical reason presents itself. I am due Thursday and if I am still preggo I get to have her sometime next week. They prefer to wait until you are 41 weeks. I think it is silly when people chose to be induced just because. I think if your baby is ready they will come, if you get to a point where there is something to worry about your doctor will do what is needed. That is why we have doctors! Also due dates are estimates so even by me saying I am due this Thursday I can be off up to about 2 weeks.

Depends on the doctor, my sister was induced at 40 weeks and 2 days because she was just tired of being pregnant!

We went in to get induced at 38 weeks because my hubby was scheduled to be out of town over 8 hours away for a period of time around my due-date for work. The Dr said we could induce if we wanted, so we went in to get induced and i started going into labor before we even started the cirvodil.
You can talk to your dr about it if you want, but i suggest waiting only because everyone says its alot harder labor when you are induced. (it was bad for me but idk how it usually is since this is my only one). If you are just excited about the baby coming- i'd wait and rest as much as you can. get EVERYTHING prepared and ready if you haven't done so yet, and sleep sleep sleep. also enjoy eating because i didn't get to eat or drink for two days because my labor was extensive and then i ended up having to have emergency c-section.
  good luck!
