How Can I....

posted 25th Aug
Get my son to stop eatting the damn cat food >___<!!!

Yes he's fed. Yes he eats. He just seems to always ALWAYS do a quick stop at the catfood bowl for a handful of catfood. Ive even tried feeding the cat after he's asleep or hiding it and yet he still finds a way to get into it. I tell him no, i redirect, i move it, i move him and yet he still gets into it x_X

On the same subject... is it going to hurt him to eat it (as in he probably gets about 1/4 of his handful into his mouth)

ETA: he's almost 4 and has autism. (which is why its posted in special needs lol)

catfood has salmonella in it. I would put the bowl away while you are home and only keep it down when you kitty meows for food

Put the cat food up high. Somewhere where the cat can jump up to it. How old is your son?

No, it doesn't. If it did, the cats would get sick. They can catch it. There was a pet food recall a few years back bc of salmonella getting in the food. Its not put in there on purpose.

Uhhh. Cat food doesn't have salmonella. If that were true all cat owners who touch their cat would get it :/ cat grooms self. We touch cat. Hello Salmonella! There was a recall for some tainted wet food a few months back. But that was a small amount of tainted food. And dry food does not have it.

I would designate a room for your kitty to eat and kinda shut LO outta it while your cat eats. That's the only way I can think of

besides it not having nutrients in it that my kid would need... is it gonna hurt him to eat it (not like as a meal obviously, but i can't watch him every second and i've tried moving it up high, hiding it in cupboards, and everything.), i think its a texture thing due to his autism that he craves the crunch, but i've tried dry cereal and other like textures of REAL food and he just keeps going to the cat food =\

I mean its definitely not good for him, but I don't think it's going to harm him. When I was a kid and I played with my neighbor, he brother ate all the pet food. Cat, dog and horse food lol. He was fine.

Not that I'd let my daughter eat cat food, but I dont think there's Salmonella in it anymore
