major vent.... stupid cat....

posted 19th May
Its 2:54 in the morning and I'm awake. Because I'm 40 weeks pregnant?? NO, because of my stupid cat! I don't cuss, but I'm about to start cussing this thing out! He constantly wakes me up every night and I can't stop him!
He keeps jumping on baby's dresser, then on her changing table, then on/in the laundry basket, then tries to get into the window sill!
And as soon as I move a little towards sitting up or grabbing the spray bottle, he runs away, then comes back when he thinks I'm asleep and freaking does it again! This has been going on for months! And he know's he is NOT allowed in these places, because as soon as I look at him, he zips away.
The changing table has a ton of stuff on it, to deter him from jumping, but it doesn't stop him, and he can't jump up there when the baby is born, because he'll make it dirty.
Same thing with the dresser and the basket, but he jumps up/in there anyway!!
And this is the neediest cat in the world!
If I lock him out of my room, he meows at the door all night long! And I am not exagerating...
So if he's being bad and I get up, he runs away and hides! Sometimes I'll flick his nose or his forehead and when I get up in the middle of the night, he crouches and act like I'm going to hit him! I feel like the worst person in the world!
So I've take to locking him in the bathroom, but thar freaks him out and he meows the whole time, then shakes the door like crazy.
So all this I can hear even with my door closed...
I'm at my wits end.... This cat has no choice but to find another home!!!
But I have another cat that gets lonely and aggressive without another cat around... And I don't want to get rid of her. :'(
And I have a hard time getting rid of him because a friend of mine that has passed away gave him to me.... and then if I take him to the shelter. I'm pretty much signing him up to die....
And now all I can do is sit here, at 3 am, seething until I cry.

Well if you read all of that, thank you for letting me vent and reading my novel..
I just don't know what to do anymore, I'm so frustrated....

aww ..I'm sorry that your kitty is being a pain..I bet that he knows that things are changing around him and he jsut wants to explore whats going on....not that it helps you to get any sleep...but, maybe after the baby comes and he gets adjusted he won't be so wacky !!
We have a kitty that always gets me up as soon as I get comfy in bed so that he can go outside..and I always grumble and then try to remind myself that once the baby comes that sort of thing will be happening a lot..
just try to relax and if you can close the cat out of the area that he shouldn't be in ..good luck ...and sweet dreams soon I hope

Have you tried locking him out and providing some fun (noise-less) toys to occupy him so he won't be so focused on wanting to be in the bedroom with you?

We have recently kicked our three cats out of our bedroom at night and that is what we did. So far it has worked pretty well. We have aluminum foil in the baby's crib and that keeps them out. I have heard others say that once the baby's smell is in the bed and on various items, the cats usually stay clear.

It's true, they still scratch at the door in the morning, but that is just to let us know they are ready for breakfast. If they did that all night I think I would start losing my mind.

Perhaps your vet might have some good suggestions to help you train your cat so that you don't have to get rid of him. I know it must be very frustrating for you right now. I hope you are able to work things out so you are able to live together harmoniously.

Good luck!

I swear cats are just like little kids. My cat always wanted to sit on my belly when it got bigger and the day I brought my baby home the cat went potty under the crib all the time. I didn't thinka cat could get so jealous, I tried and tried and after 3 months I got rid of it.

My cat peed on this feather mat that i had on our bedroom floor ( layed on it when i would be really sick, so i had easier access to my puke bucket. lol ) but hed never peed in our house, not once, and he just suddenly peed on it twice in 2 days shortly after i found out i was pregnant. we let him know that it wasnt okay though, and he hasnt done it since.

my cat really pissed me off easily during pregnancy.

My youngest cat thinks that he is the baby...he has taken to sleeping in the baby bouncer ..which I allow for now because the cover comes off and it's washable so ...I'm not going to stress about it...
I know that for cribs and stuff though there is a mesh screen thing that goes over the top that will keep the pets out..it's sorta like a tent dome looking thing..I know that you can find them at Wal -Mart..
here's the link..

this would at least keep the kitty outta the crib!

Thanks for reading and listening ladies..
I'm just at my wits end...
I'm officially 40 weeks and have a lot of other stressors right now..
All I want to do is sleep, which is hard enough being pregnant.. And the cat won't even let me get a few hours... And I know I won't sleep when the baby is born, so shouldn't I deserve a few good nights sleep before she arrives???
And as I said, this has been going on for months..

I have a cat too, and he used to meow at the door all night long trying to get me to let him in. With my cat, I just had to ignore him until he got the hint that no matter how annoying he got I wasn't going to let him in my bedroom. I am only 16 weeks pregnant, so I knew I had to start training him early. It only took a few days until he got the hint.

That being said, it sounds like your cat is pretty stubborn and that's not going to work.

The only suggestion I have is maybe closing the cat off in another section of the house?

Our kitten/young adult cat was like that in our apartment. We locked her in the bathroom at night because we couldn't stand it. They won't stop...they know you don't want them doing it...it's for attention.

If you weren't willing to put up with all that comes with a cat then you should have never accepted him in the first place. Cats are not disposable!!!

Have you even looked into the options? Talked to your vet? Reduced the amount of attention you've given him lately?? Why can't he explore the baby's things pre-baby?

1. Buy a crib tent
2. Turn bouncy seats and carseats upside down to prevent him from sleeping in them. Collapse the stroller too.
3. Lay a towel on the changing table. You can remove it for diaper changes so the baby isn't in contact w/ "dirt" as you call it.
4. Give him attention. He knows something is changing and needs reassurance.
5. Try Feli-Way. It's a plug-in that is made of synthetic cat pheremones and calms cats down.

my cat does the same thing..but the thing that drives me crazy the most is the puking...we've taken him to the vet and they didn't find anything wrong. we've changed his food and he still does it. it's driving me up the wall... We adopted him from another couple last year (the husband joined the army and thye weren't sure where they'd end up) but I kept in touch with the wife and luckily they are more situated now and are gonna be in florida the first week of june and can take the cat back with them...i think he'll do better with his old "parents" The vet said that the cat is puking possibly cuz of stress. (we just moved) but we also have a dog (who doesn't bother the cat at all) but i think he'd fare better being an only pet. as much as we've grown to love him him despite the puking i'm not sure how he'd handle getting less attention when the baby comes :/
