Terminating Father's Rights??

posted 23rd Aug
My friend Ashley is pregnant with her first child and the father hasn't been there much thru out her entire pregnancy and now is talking about terminating his rights because she has threaten to go after child support since he is talking about having nothing to with his unborn son and wants to start a family with the girl he is with now... In the State of Florida, is it hard to just sign over rights to a baby because you don't want to pay child support or have anything to do with the child? At first, he wasn't going to sign over rights no matter what... Well now he says he wants to because he wants to start a family with his new girlfriend...

This is my question :: In the State of Florida, is it hard to just sign over rights to a baby because you don't want to pay child support or have anything to do with the child?

He cannot sign over rights. It's not possible.

He can sign over adoption to your friends future husband but they have to be married 1 year first.

Child Support usually requires a DNA test. If, in fact it is his child then he does have to pay child support.

If your friend doesn't want him involved, she can just never put him on the birth certificate and never file for child support. Then in the future when she's married theres no rights to terminate.

Did she agree to let him sign over rights? I was told they had to both agree to sign over rights to a child.. Like the mother and father had to agree...

I know about the DNA test has to be done, I went thru that with my fiance and his son but not the signing over rights part to get out of paying child support.

Yes both parents would have to agree. But I can tell you, in Florida, he cannot sign over rights unless your friend is married

Yeah, she agreed. He was a meth head & all. She didn't want him in her daughters life, KWIM. They just signed some papers & that was that.

So say she was to go after him for child support but put down that she doesn't want him to have nothing to do with her son, would that be possible? I honestly don't think he will have anything to her son but I was also told, when your paying child support, you have rights to seeing the child.

Bullsmurf!
My second daughter's father signed his rights away voluntarily, back when we still lived in Florida. It differs state to state, but I know from PERSONAL EXPERIENCE that it can be done in Florida

It was either share visitation with him & get child support or cut all ties & terminate... She needed child support, but wasn't about to let a meth head get visitation of any kind... So she agreed on him terminating his rights.
