I read about GV & I'm skeptical, not on whether it'll work or not, but because some info said not to use on newborns & info saying some study (in Australia I believe) found it can lead to mouth cancer. I assume that's with prolonged or excessive use, but still kind of freaks me out This is my first experience with thrush & yeast infection, but I'm pretty sure i caught it early & I've got an appointment for us both later this afternoon.

In case doctor suggests it or whatever they prescribe doesn't work, is this the right stuff?...

A dr won't suggest it. It's too cheap!!! Why would they want you to spend $5 when they can get you to get an expensive prescription? Haha. They'll prescribe nystatin for him and maybe a nip cream or fluconazole for you. I'm a huge gv advocate. It was the standard to use before they invented a prescription for it. I used it in Lylian when she had it and it was gone in a day. You don't use it over 5 days. Prolonged use can do something to the membranes in the mouth. Idk exactly. Maybe that's where the mouth cancer thing comes in. I've never found a min age for use and I've looked. It's kind of up in the air. The problem with nystatin is it doesn't always work so baby and mom can just keep passing it back and forth.

Well then, screw dragging 2 kids to the doctor, I'm canceling appointment if I won't get charged for it. And it's not about the money, but I get what you're saying with the way the medical field works. I just don't want to drag 2 kids out if I don't have to & can get DH to pick some up on his way home. No way do I want to bother leaving home with a toddler who doesn't take naps & hits her fussy point around 3 when appointment was for & a nearly 3 week old who I'm now thinking has thrush after all because even though there's no obvious signs, he's fussy when nursing & having trouble staying latched...& we're talking about a baby who almost never fusses or cries, he's usually so calm & quiet! That's how I realized in the last few hours that he must have it too

I found it at a pharmacy not too far away, definitely closest place that carries it that I've found.
Anyone know what's best for treating a yeast infection over the counter? This is my first time having one so I have no clue where to start

I use gyne-lotrimin. Was recommended by my OB when Monistat didn't work.

Is it topical or internal or both? I ask because I remember seeing commercials for monistat that were suppositories or whatever. I've looked as best I could & it doesn't appear to be internal, but do I still treat both external & internal to be safe?

The last I had was a suppository, but there's a cream as well for internal and external use. I do both.

So it's best to treat internal & external, just to be safe?

Man, when you said to find GV *QUICK* you weren't kidding! I didn't even have symptoms until last night around 10 pm, so its not even 24 hours yet & I'm ready to rip my nipples & breasts off! It feels like its already in my breasts now, so GV is pretty much out of the question, & hard to find.I went to a walk-in dr clinic to be told they couldn't treat DS, he's too young for them to see & then they said they could treat me but i couldn't BF on Diflucan. From everything I've read even babies get prescribed it so how is it not ok to BF with!? So frustrating! Got some antifungal cream for now to put on my nipples, but sadly that won't help DS dr tomorrow for sure, this sucks, thrush is the DEVIL!

You can b on diflucan. Whoever said that is whack.
You can use the gv on Mikey and your nips. The diflucan will help the yeast In the breasts and the vaginal yeast infection.

Ok, good to know! I wasn't sure if it could be used along with prescription meds for thrush or not. I'll keep calling around, one place said they had it but I didn't think to ask when they close & by the time we made it there they had just closed up like 15 min before. I think I'll pick it up as soon as they open, maybe 2-3 bottles even since its so hard to find! I probably won't begin using it until we get prescriptions in case they need to check severity, etc. because I don't want the visible signs to clear up & them think I am treating us both for nothing or anything like that. I'm about to email doctor office & if they can't get us in tomorrow then I'm calling DD old pedi we only switched from because its over an hour drive after we moved. If neither of those options work I'm contacting LC's, etc. until i can find someone. If no luck with all that I'll start GV tomorrow night if I can put up with it that long & not start sooner out of desperation.

Nobody ever had to look at mine. Can u call and get your Gyn to prescribe the diflucan for the vag yeast or do u already have that? You prolly won't need a bunch of gv. It's a small bottle but u just put it on a qtip and swab it on. So you use like a Dab. What you'd wanna do is take diflucan which should clear up the bag and breast yeast infection. Then use the qtip and let air dry on your nips. Put on ready pads cause it'll stain your bra. Then do a quick swab in Mikey's mouth. If u wanna avoid his lips being stained u can put Vaseline on them first. I didn't bother. But Lylian was older so it was easier for her to open up. I assume it could get messy with a NBs tiny mouth. Dont get it on anything. It will stain!!! Do this twice a day. Once in the am once in the pm. If its not gone in 3 days (6applications) id go to the dr. I wouldn't push 5 days with a NB. Maybe an older child or adult. But he'll get some diflucan through the bm so that'll help too.
