Type of formula for baby-

posted 22nd Aug '12
My baby is constipated he hasnt pooped in almost 3 days. Hes been drinking similac advanced with iron. Im wondering what formula would be good to switch to? He still needs a little bit of iron in his diet but I dont think as much as hes consuming now.

That's normal.

BF babies can go 3 days without pooping.
FF can go 5-7 days before it becomes an issue.

My daughter had the same problem we was using enfamil with iron already ready that the hospital had and she was popping jus fine then we switched her to the powder kind and she was having trouble popping to where we had to help her go so we switched back to the liquid kind and she hasnt had no problem since.

We havent switched his formula were still using the liquid based formula the hospital gives you to feed them. It's just worrying me because I know he has to poop really bad but he cant get anything out which has been causing him to get really fussy.

Try movin his legs around and moving his butt cheeks around like around the butt hole. I know it sounds weird but that's what we had to do with our daughter and it helped her go. My SO had to do the same thing with his older daughter.

I have tried doing that. Ive also trying stimulating his butt hole with the tip of a themometer and vaseline, and ive also given him a warm bath. I was told to try dark karo suryp but I dont think it would be very healthy for a newborn.

Hes a week old. I kinda thought it was normal at first because I know there getting used to all there muscles and how they work and stuff but its been almost 3 days and no newborns that ive ever known have gone that long with out pooping being formula fed.

Ask your doctor what they may advise! One of my sons had the same issue and we switched formulas and he still had problems so we went back to our original formula(which was the Newborn Enfamil) and our peds. dr. told us to give him a 1/2 tsp. of Miralax is his bottle daily! We did that all the way until he was on baby food(around 6 months) and we never had another issue with him going poop!

Yea I never heard of it either. When my SO had told me that she wasn't popping cuz we was using powder formula and not the liquid kind I didn't believe him but then no sooner that we switched back to liquid she popped, so he was right. I'm not sure what else u could do, besides talk to his doctor bout it. Ur doing everything that we've had to do with our daughter and she is 3 weeks old today and popping his fine since we switched it. I hope he poops soon

Me too! Im kind of scared to take him to the doctor because my aunt said when her grand daughter was a newborn and had problems with contipation the stuck this grabber type thing up her but to remove the solid poop and all it did was cut her poor little butt and cause her to bleed and they never did get the solid poop out   I think im going to try a infant supository not the whole thing but just a little sliver of it I will let you know if he poops soon   lol

My LO started on Similac Advanced, but it made him constipated too. We switched to Similac Sensitive, and haven't had any more issues.

I gave him a warm bottle of his formula and he pooped lol go figure though the last thing I try works! Does sensitive formula have enough iron in it? I was thinking about switching to it if my little guy gets constipated again.
