Preemie Questions

posted 22nd Aug '12
Im really just wondering more if she is born before 37 weeks but I added the 37 and 38+ just to see.

Im getting off bed rest and contraction meds at 35 weeks {in 2 weeks} and Im really nervous about if she comes at 35 or 36 weeks what will happen. If she will possibly be okay to come home with us or if we are looking at problems that will put her in the NICU for a while. I know no one can really tell me that and we wont know unless that time comes to find out so I wanted to make this poll to see what happened with other. I know its 50/50 on what will happen.

If you like to share your story about having a 35 or 36 weeker I would appreciate it   Thank you.

Depends on the child you can have a 35 weaker go home as long as they breath/eat on their own they are at a healthy weight and can maintain there body temperature but that is all up to your lo my son was born at 34 weeks and if he didn’t have sever acid reflux he would have gone home instead of staying in the NICU (he would stop breathing because it would stop at his gag reflux so they had to monitor him)

I have had two 36 weekers.

Tate was 36 weeks 2 days. He was 6lbs 1 oz and went home the next day.

Bo was 36 weeks 3 days. I was induced with her for multiple reasins including my fast labor with my 1st (1 hr 46 mins). I was scared to have another preemie. She was only 5 lbs 3 oz and spent one extra day for a tiny bit of jaundice. She roomed with me though and didnt have to go to nicu. (Her labor was only 36 minutes!)

I know and fully understand this lol Im pretty sure I stated in my post that I know no one can tell me if my child will go to the nicu or come home if she is born at 35 o 36 weeks and that that wasnt what I was asking, I was only wondering what has happened with other who have had 35 or 36 week babies.

Is it normal for babies to have jaundice when they are born before term or full term?

I think its more common for a preemie but term babies can have it too. She had such a slught case that if she would have been term they would have let her go.

While I was scared of another preemie it was definately the right decision. We had an hour drive to the hospital and delivered only 36 minutes after my water was broken to start my induction! She was only 4 lbs 10 oz when we left the hospital. She is still super tiny and only 22 lbs at almost two years. But shes very healthy and smart. She tested 7 months ahead!

Is there a certain weight they have to be to leave the hospital? Or as long as they are healthy and having no issues they can leave?

It varies at different hospitals. Bo was actually supposed to be 5 lbs but they snuck her out lol. Just make sure your carseat is for the weight she is. Luckily our carseat went below 5 lbs because alot of them dont.

The lowest weight with mine is 5lbs. So hopefully she will be a little bigger then that.

Hopefully. Tate was 6lbs 1 oz and born a day earlier then Bo. And I know 100% that my dates were not off.

I think mine were but I cant say for sure, I know the tummy measurements and ultrasound measurements have been right on for the week I should be but those can be off too I guess so they could be, We werent using any ovulation indicators when we got pregnant we took a break from TTC lol
