Idk if that will work, but it's a video of him from 6 months. He doesn't do that anymore.

IMO early intervention isn't the best. The time is significantly shorter per week than a private clinic provides.
I understand what your saying about the autism. I believe in being proactive and even if he does end up with it, with early and intense therapy he might be able to be more high functioning. Although I'm not sure.
I do know my oldest was diagnosed with Pervasive developmental disorder a Ith functioning autism at 2.5 and by 4 he still has symptoms/ traits but not enough to qualify for a diagnosis. Even now a year later sometime it shines through but not like it once was.
Have you looked into ABA therapy both your kiddos could participate in at home? Even together might be worth looking into.

Awww hun   that has to be super stressful. If you ever want to talk let me know. I have two autistic siblings so I grew up with all of this. Its amazing your kids have such a strong advocate for them!

Oh Sarah, life really needs to cut you some slack.
Levi was 2 1/2 when he was diagnosed. He would have been diagnosed sooner though if I had known what I was looking for. Levi was always quiet but he did babble some, the problems was he never really progressed babbling and single words. Levi didn't regress he just never progressed beyond a certain point. I don't remember everything they did in his therapies but I remember them doing flash cards, reading books, singing songs, puzzles, helping him play with clear instructions. "Levi feed the bear with his spoon." Stuff like that. He's still extremely delayed as you know but he's doing okay I guess. We're starting more intensive therapy so I'm hopeful that will give him a good push. I can't give great advise just because I'm still in the sorta panic phase with a new diagnosis bit too but I'm here anytime you need to talk!!

I feel the same way.

We did ABA with Katie and it worked really well for us. I still have all of our ABA books that we used with her. I need to get them out and start studying.

Thank you Jess. It is really scary. I did everything different with Alex than I did with Katie thinking I had somehow caused her to have autism. I guess part of me is relieved that it wasn't anything I did, but I also hate that there's no recognized explanation of why some children have delays and some don't. I don't like the randomness of it, you know?

It is scary and I've often wondered if I did anything to cause Levi's delays. In some ways I wish there was a clear reason just so I'm not constantly worried but I'm also worried that I was the reason. I don't think I'll ever forgive myself if he does have a chromosomal defect even though they say most of them just happen. Alex isn't that far behind though and you are getting him in therapy early so you are doing exactly what you need too. Your kiddo's are lucky to have you as a mommy!

the chromosome thing is definitely nothing you did. one of those "these things just happen" things. As are most cases of autism. I read a study that said 90% of the kids diagnosed with autism have a genetic factor involved. You did nothing wrong at all. You're a great mom.

Right after I posted this morning, there was a thread on the sidebar titled "what can your 1 year old do?" I read it on my phone and curled up in the corner of my bathroom and cried for about 20 minutes and then convinced myself that they were all lying and exaggerating

I absolutely hate those threads. "Oh my six month old speaks in sentenances." "Oh well mine speaks in sentences at the grocercy store, because he does our weekly shopping." Blah. I don't know if the moms are just lying or insanely optamisic.
