Maternity Leave Pay Question

posted 18th May
I live in CA, does anyone know how long and how much the state pays you for maternity leave. I cannot find anything online about it and i have heard different things from different people. Anyone know? Or where to go to find out?

I don't think the state pays for you to have a maternity leave. That all depends on your work's policy.

This will tell you everything and you can also download the forms for your doc to fill out.

It covers up to 6 weeks.

If you go under Informational Materials there are several brochures you can download.

5 states offer disability leave to their residents. CA, NY, NJ, HI and RI. And also Puerto Rico. The rest of us either have to purchase it from our employer or have to see if the job offers it as a benefit.

What about your job? Aren't they giving you maternity leave with pay?

From my understanding it is an "unemployment" type of issue and it is based on your previous wages.

My work doesn't pay me for my leave. But that website you sent me to, says that your employer pays for it. It says nothing about the state paying for it. Im confused

Go to your unemployment office on monday if you can or google CA unemployment bennifits.

You work is required by law to provide you up to 12 weeks of FMLA leave. They don't have to pay but they have to keep your job for you.

Our state has a program called the "diversion" program. If you bring in proof of your monthly debt, monthly income, aan estimated time off from work they will give you the money with no questions asked. Pretty cool if you ask me. I wish I would have knwn about it when I had my daughter!

Im not sure if every employer pays for maturnity leave and I know you have to be at the job a certain amount of time, as for me it was a percentage of my weekly pay and I was able to take 4 weeks b4 birth 6 weeks after birth its 8 wks for a c-section. then through the state I got another 6 weeks it was baby bonding time which that 6 weeks was not paid for..

Make sure you go to the website provide earliar in a post and print out all the paperwork!!! You complete the SDI first, and when that 6 weeks of pay is up they will send you paid family leave paperwork to get $$ for the next 6 weeks. I have my EDD paperwork filled out, my doctor will sign it and send to the offices at my 36 week appt next week.
