Do they let you brush their teeth?

posted 21st Aug
My 3 year old does not cooperate when it comes to brushing her teeth. She has a micro deletion, she's delayed in everything so she still isn't 100% accurate when feeding herself with utensils so letting her brush them doesn't work either. She won't close her teeth together all she will do is open her mouth but as soon as I start she laughs and turns away and fights...I can never do a good enough job it feels like.

My dd fights me too. She wants to do it herself. We try to do the you brush first and then mommy will check them (brush them again haha). Or do the you brush in the marking mommy brushes at night.

My daughter loves to brush her teeth. She's 3 aswell.

She doesn't like letting me do it but I negotiate with her, she brushes in the morning, I brush them at night, that way it's getting a good brush at least once a day

I pin them down and do it. Twice a day every day. It is a pain in the ass but better then them getting cavities.

My son is obsessed with toothbrushes but not brushing his teeth. He has 5 different toothbrushes. I have to turn it into a race saying that I will use his toothbrush to get him to run upstairs and pick one out. And then he likes to do it himself and then I "test" or "check" him, so I go back over it and ask "Did you brush here? And here? And here?"

Thanks for the replies everyone, I don't think she will quite understand her doing it this time and me doing it the next. She doesn't talk well yet she hasn't used a sentence yet and i'm not sure she grasps the concept of time or time of day. It's so hard not being able to talk with her and know what she understands or wants/needs through verbal communication. She is starting to jibber jabber now though ..finally! She tries to say different words like Go but she says "doe" lol or bye...she usually gets it right but sometimes says it like she can't hear herself. She failed a few hearing tests in one ear at First Step in the last month, doctor said her ears had fluid so we got her well and I need to take her back this week for a hearing test.

You dont think she could understand the times wake up time and bedtime?
You don't have to say morning and night. Hopefully if it is her hearing shell catch up with speech as soon as that's fixed. A lot of kids do.

She knows "time to go to sleep" I believe because I'll say that and tell her to lay down and get comfy. When I get her up in the morning for preschool I tell her it's time to get up. If I said it to her when talking about something else i'm not sure she would make the connection. She doesn't grasp things like that very fast, I have to repeat it and maybe eventually she would get what I mean but then sometimes it's hard to know if she does in fact get it since she can't tell me or nod her head in understanding ...I ask her if she understands things but she doesn't know what i'm saying I don't think. I am the one who understands her and what she wants and needs most, though. It's still hard even spending all day everyday with her since she was born lol but the ear thing..she has had several ear infections just from being sick with a cold or whatnot and it getting trapped in her ears. She has always passed hearing tests before though so I know it's the deletion causing a delay and speech just happens to be most affected.
