Toddler Stutter
posted 20th Aug
DD did not stutter until she turned 3. Then she started stuttering a little. Its been 6 months and has gotten worse. In the past three weeks she can't even get a sentence out without it. She will say a log of mmmmmm's before talking.
Anyone elses toddler start stuttering? Did it last? Get worse? I know it could probably just be a normal toddler thing to go through. Today it was crazy obvious. She could barley talk.

My little cousin had a really bad stutter when he was younger and he grew out of it. She might grow out if it, he's might not. Every child is different. I wouldn't be to worried about it though.

I had a friend when I was younger that used to stutter. I know what helped her was to slow down and take a deep breath before trying again. M's brain is probably just moving too fast for her mouth.

Cora started doing it around then, too. I just tell her to slow down usually and it helps. Its not THAT often, though. It happens a few times a day and it's usually when shes REALLY excited about something.

I agree that M's brain is probably moving too fast. Alice doesn't have a stutter and never has so I don't know if it's a normal thing or not. Alice misspeaks when she gets excited though, she'll say words wrong when she's overly excited and talking fast (words she'd otherwise know how to say properly.) but it doesn't happen often, she is good about catching herself and slowing herself down. Teach M to do that. When Alice gets overly excited and talks really fast she usually will say "Whoa!" and then stop and gather her thoughts, sometimes I'll remind her by saying "slow down so I can understand you."
