I think it depends in your body. For example, me I exercised after LO was one but it literally takes me like a week to loose 25 pounds so I'm good.
However, if it was my DH he can work out and diet as much as I do but won't loose as fast.
You should get to know your body, try different diets, see what works better and go by that.
