Quoting ★Mommarazzi★:" So Friday I'm doing my first "official" (it's free) mommy and son/baby shoot. I'm excited Any tips? ... [snip!] ... back and order? I would assume after they see proofs they will get their other stuff but I know people who do it both ways."
My clients order after they see the edited files. I do the shoot and let them know that I need about a week until their online gallery is finished. I also explain to them that since their monitor is probably not calibrated that when they view their online gallery, the colors/brightness may not be the same as they are on my calibrated monitor. I explain this again when I send the e-mail with the link to their gallery and offer to make an appointment to view the pictures together on my calibrated monitor in my studio.
I know most American photographers demand payment up front before ordering, I don't. Half the payment for the session is due when we do the shoot, the other half when the online gallery comes up. Payment for print orders is due when the prints are picked up. I live in Germany though and client mentality seems to be a bit different here.
ETA: ordering is done after they have seen their online gallery
