Well you still need to be firm regarding dates and availability or you're just opening the door to be stepped on.

CC? I didn't really get to do any editing on this, but it is VERY rare that DH lets me take pics of him. I might try to clone out the hamper in the back.

Oh I know. I told her this would be the only weekend before school that I'm not busy. So if she doesn't, that's on her.

I like color for the first and BW for the second

Quoting Ryleigh's Mommy ♥:" I have a couple questions. I took this photo a couple days ago kind of on a whim with my 50 mm 1.8 lens. ... [snip!] ... hard time getting her into the frame at home because we're kind of cramped up in her play area, lol. Pulling from facebook. "

I assume you're using a cropped sensor camera, you'll probably like a 35mm better for indoor pictures. It's a bit wider than a 50mm and will let get more of her in the frame.

It looks like you have clipping going on in the hairband which makes the colors look a bit funky there. This might be able to help: http://www.bobatkins.com/photography/tutorials/clipping/clipping.html

So Friday I'm doing my first "official" (it's free) mommy and son/baby shoot. I'm excited

Any tips?

This is a free session but on a normal basis how do you handle the money side. Like after the sitting fee do they know what they want to order ahead of time and pay or do they come back and order? I would assume after they see proofs they will get their other stuff but I know people who do it both ways.

My clients order after they see the edited files. I do the shoot and let them know that I need about a week until their online gallery is finished. I also explain to them that since their monitor is probably not calibrated that when they view their online gallery, the colors/brightness may not be the same as they are on my calibrated monitor. I explain this again when I send the e-mail with the link to their gallery and offer to make an appointment to view the pictures together on my calibrated monitor in my studio.
I know most American photographers demand payment up front before ordering, I don't. Half the payment for the session is due when we do the shoot, the other half when the online gallery comes up. Payment for print orders is due when the prints are picked up. I live in Germany though and client mentality seems to be a bit different here.

ETA: ordering is done after they have seen their online gallery

He looks annoyed but that's how my husband ALWAYS looks too haha. The main thing is it feels a bit under and you're losing some detail in your blacks so I'd brighten it up a bit.

Money wise, people pay a retainer to reserve their date, the remaining session fee at their session and then they pay for their products at their ordering session.

Yup, Nikon D5100. Thanks! I really want to talk SO into spoiling me at tax return time, lol! I really do think I will like the 35mm much better for photos of DD inside.

Thanks for the link! Going to check it out now!

I've only got 4-5 more spots MAX before baby.. Mainly in Feb.. I won't be sad if I don't fill that last March spot. March is going to be rough. It's going to be non-stop right until he comes. I really hope he doesn't come too early, my gut says he will be coming a little earlier.
