I would need at least 2 flashes though right?

I've never been much for artificial light. Everything I do is outside anyway but I'd love being able to keep the color of the sky in some pictures, but flashes and lights intimidate me.

I used it once and got frustrated because I couldn't figure out how to change layer opacity

No, not at all. When I do OCF I normally only do one light, unless it's like, a large group at a wedding. I honestly always PREFER natural light and I'm not huge on caring if the sky is blown out, depending on the quality of the light. Like, in general my sunset photos have blown skies but it's not as overwhelming since it's a softer light. But some situations you just really need to add light. It can give you a lot of variety.

You're right!
I found a cable that I can use to mount the flash onto my tripod away from the camera.

I agree with Brandi. I'm sure it was OCF. I got a nice blue sky shooting my son's bridal couple portrait shoot with OCF: http://www.cherylekupschphotography.de/2012/08/sneak-peek-bridal-couple-portrait-shoot-fotostudio-67117-limburgerhof-fotograf-mannheim-ludwigshafen-speyer/

Here's a behind the scenes from that shoot: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151132194846212&set=a.10151331268011212.523331.201714856211&type=3&theater

sorry I'm using my new ipad and I have no idea if I'm adding the links correctly.

They're not clicky but it's fine, I'm on a computer
Firstly, wow, what a gorgeous couple!

And second, a question. Having the light pointing down on them like that doesn't create shadows under their noses?

In this case the lighter colored wheat was also reflecting up at them so it didn't. I also didn't have the power so high that it would have and the big softbox was diffusing the light from the flash. Each outdoor situation is a bit different depending on where the sun is. We were out at mid day in Augest so we had the blaring sun directly over us as well. The light from the flash was more to the front of them and was working as a fill flash to get rid of the shadows the sun was causing.

and Thank you, I think they make a good looking couple too!
