Quoting Michael Westen:" So uh... According to DH, I don't get to get the camera that I wanted at tax time. So what's the "cheapest" ... [snip!] ... So what's the "cheapest" FX camera you can get (canon or nikon, digital obviously).... Since my budget is no longer $2700.  "
You can get a 5D Mk 2 for like $1800 now.

He really wants me to keep it under $1500 including all things I need. (I need CF cards, a reader, replace my lens, etc.)

I don't think you'll be able to find much. Are you set on ff? Why not get some nice glass

Well I was but I feel like I don't have much choice now. I might just go with a D7000 instead for right now. Then once I can get a FF, it will still make a nice backup.

Haha, not smurf. I have a 35mm f/1.8. Which I will need to replace if I get a FX format camera because it's a DX lens. I mean if I were to just get the d7000 that would be one less thing to replace plus I could get a different lens.

I know I had to decide if I REALLY needed a FX camera.
I've only had the d7k like a week and I love it.
Adorama has the bodies on sale for $896 right now, or refurbished for $799

I'd buy a new one cause I'm a freak like that. lol. How is the ISO capability compared to the D3000? (I have the 3100 which is exactly the same thing)

Amazing. Lol. Like you know I have a D3000 too. I can comfortably shoot indoors at like 1250? I'm scared to push it higher but I've taken pictures at 4000 and used the noise reduction in LR and they were totally usable. It blows the D3000/3100 out of the water in all aspects. I think you'd be happy. Its a definite learning curve though.

Well I use a D90 for my Public Affairs job with my unit and that's just a step below. I'm comfortable with that! The lack of ISO goodness with my D3100 is what blows the most. And I'm reading the comparison on Snapsort and it's saying that the images out of a d7k are 20% better quality wise than the 3100. Idk. I think I'm just gonna get that and roll with it for awhile. THen I won't have to replace my 35mm lens. And maybe I can also get a flash or another lens.

Snap sort is such a cool site.
Any idea what lens you'd want

Hmm. Idk. I want an 85mm 1.8. But we'll see.

ETA: Or a 50 1.4D since the 7k has a built in motor.

And probably a 40mm f/2.8 macro.

I think with our taxes I'm going to buy the 50mm 1.4. Possibly a new body not sure though. I love my camera.

I've got a 35 and 50 and all I do is portraits, not even newborns, so I have no idea what otherlens I'd get.   I'm good for now though, we just have to pay this camera off co,e tax time
