actually a good photographer should be able to make any type of lighting work so I wouldn't classify her as "fauxtog" just because she's on the beach at noon. I don't know her or her work but I think it's important to know how to get the good shots no matter what the lighting is.

btw I've done a number of shoots in full bright summer sun at high noon because that was the only time it worked (especially bridal couple portrait shoots including my son's and daughter-in-law's). At one shoot, I heard one of the spectator's making a similar comment about me (I didn't know what I was doing, I was using the wrong lens, blah blah ... some photographer that thought he knew so much more than me). I didn't let it bother me because I knew what I was getting and I knew I was getting it right with the light I had available to me.

cute!
Was this for the charity shoot where they wanted an unreasonable amount of poses in a short time period? If it was, how did it go?

I think she's like 37 or 38 weeks. I was only doing them for practice because I've been wanting to do maternity pics for a while.

The first few maternity that I shot came in at 38 weeks all delivered 2 days after the shoot. That kind of freaked me out so now I try to get them in at 34-36 weeks so there isn't so much danger of them delivering before the shoot.

OMW! I love that! What setting would I have to put my camera on to get a shot like that? What kind of lighting did you have?

Thank you

I just had candle light. It's pretty dark already so there was not much other ambient light going on. And I edited the picture so I'll post the sooc so you get a better idea what it really looks like with the settings.

ETA: I purposely turned the lights off in the room because I wanted the lighting to be only candle light. I positioned him so that the candle from the pumpkin was lighting him a bit and added another candle quite close to him for more light on him. I had him lie on the table beside the pumpkin so that I could get his face at the right level for getting the pumpkin to shine on him as much as possible.

My camera settings were: f/2.8, SS 200, ISO 200
SOOC

edited in LR4 and CS5

Thanks Cheryle, We just got the kids 2 HUGE pumpkins and I would love to capture a great picture with them. Though it won't be as good as yours.

And IMO I don't think the SOOC looks bad but I love the way the edit adds more character to the picture.

I'm a big believer in photography and editing going hand in hand. I always take my pictures with how I want to edit it already in my mind which affects how I expose the photograph. I love a good SOOC but sometimes I purposely do my SOOC so it's not the best SOOC but it's the best type of basis for the edit I want to do yet.

Makes sense. I tend to over edit.
