Alright I lowered the contrast on that one a little more so it's not as harsh.

Question: I'm offering a free maternity session to a friend of my SO's and I think of great poses and find some as well but when I go to take pictures I kind of blank out  . Does anyone do a cheat sheet? lol or any tricks to remember them?

You could type them up on a list and just print it out and put it in your pocket. Or they have posing stuff you can buy and reference on your phone and stuff. I don't do that personally but I know it's out there. I think a big thing is just try and relax, take your time and use a critical eye. Time and experience will give you that automatic list of ideas that you can customize for each person.

I always write out the poses/settings I will do during a shoot and any little reminders such as (close up, 3/4s and full body) plus I will do drawings of poses or print out poses from posing cards I've boughten that I want to do. I like to print out the poses in case the client wants a peek at what I mean and we go over everything so I have an idea of what poses they like/don't like. I never go to a shoot without my cheat sheet.

Something I'm lacking lol. I definitely need to relax during a shoot - thank you

This is great to know, thank you! I would love for a photographer to show me what she or he has in mind. This way if I didn't like the pose or felt uncomfortable I can let them know before hand. I'm relieved to know that a professional does this haha.

I have to ask though, how will you know how you're going to feel beforehand? I always tell my clients to just keep an open communication with me and if they don't like it (which I don't know has ever happened) I encourage them to tell me. No skin off my nose. Sometimes I try a pose and I don't like it for them, so I change it. I don't plan poses for my session, because every client I shoot is different so I can't assume they will all fit, personality wise, with the pose I have in mind. Some people like more modern stuff, and some like more classic stuff. Not knocking Cheryle's way, because if it works for her, that's great.. but I think that's part of it.. You have to find what works best for YOU and your clients.

I'm going to ask the girl if she has anything in mind or if she saw a picture she loves. Not that I'm going to re-create it exactly but at least know the style she likes. I know one of my biggest downfalls is freezing up and totally blanking. I was thinking of doing a cheat sheet but didn't know if photographers actually did that or not haha. You're right, it's all about what works for each individual client but I at least want to try to get an idea of what they like and don't like.
