Def. a 50mm. Either the 1.4 or 1.8. The 1.8 is a lot cheaper. I love my 50mm 1.8. I don't think I'd use below an f1.8 much and there's not a huge difference between 1.4 and 1.8.

I bought my d7000 refurbished from B&H for 750 and the lens was from B&H for 150.

A DSLR is a big investment. Even just starting out I think you should buy a good camera b/c once you learn to use it you'll want a better one if you don't get a good one now. The d7000 is a really good camera so don't feel like your selling yourself short not getting a full frame.

The D7000 is the last Nikon before full frame anyway so once you master it and want to upgrade, you'd be knowledgeable enough to try out FF.

What do you ladies think would be the best zoom lens?

I have a d7000 and I can't afford more than like $200 but I plan to buy used. I have the 50mm but I want a good zoom for school events and such. My son is about to start preK and they do a lot of events at his school plus I like to get pics of my cousins at their sporting events and such but I want it to take good portraits. I'm just really unsure about how to choose a good zoom lens lol

I know both are great cameras- I just don't feel sick spending 1200. I went to BB with every intention to buy the 6d and just didn't feel right about it. If next year I'm doing good ill sell this one and upgrade or I might love this one and be able to get what I need with it.

I held the d60 & d7000 today and had no idea which way to go. I'm hoping tomorrow ill be directed in the right direction. I'm so excited to get started- I've never had a dslr.

I would go with the d7000 over the 60d. I had a hard time choosing between canon and nikon lol they're both great brands but the main thing for me was the ISO b/c I tend to work in a lot of low light situations. The 7000 handles higher ISO better. And the nikon has 39 focus points vs 9 on the canon (I believe it's only 9)

But if you're doing a lot of video w/ your camera I've always read canon does better video.

I don't use canon so somebody else on here who uses canon may be able to tell you more why they chose canon over nikon.

I'm just starting out so video won't be a huge factor- I'm just trying to feel out the photography world. Snap sort says d7000

I don't do video either lol. Focal points and ISO are a big deal to me.
If yoou can look at both of them check out their menus and buttons and see which feels more natural to use and which is easier for you to navigate. That should help you decide too
