I got the vinyl for 40% off yesterday at Joann's and the bags of polystyrene beans were marked down to $11 a bag at Fred Meyer. I stayed under $55 with the velcro included...not too bad. Hopefully this it isn't too hard to do. I've sewn a handful of dresses for Teagan and a ton of simple little projects here and there, but never done anything like this before. Wish me luck! Excited to donate the old red bean bag I've been using 

Random question, do many of you use presets? When Im borrowing around the web looking at different photographers stuff it seems like the really professionals ones always have some sort of preset action on there photos. is this what customers like?
Also when I visited clickin moms, I was thinking about maybe taking a online lesson from them, in every course they also offer some presets as a "bonus"

That's what I used to eyeball and make mine. BTW - I made mine like 2-3" smaller and thank god because it BARELY fits into my car.. Haha. I don't drive an SUV or anything like that, just an Acura TSX. But, it's still plenty big enough and it was big enough for triplets, so you can easily make it smaller. In fact, I got the vinyl from Hobby Lobby as well and I think I ended up HAVING to make mine a little smaller or I wasn't going to have enough.. but I can't remember how much I got.

Though sometimes I just do my own B&Ws. I don't use presets otherwise, unless they're ones I've created.

I will for sure  Next step when this is finished is to convince my hubby to help me make a blanket stand too. I'd love to have them finished in time for my next newborn shoot next Monday!

I made mine about 40".. I think 38" would be good. 4 yard should be fine.

I usually use my own presets too. A few of them are ones I've adapted from downloaded ones.

My BD is in a band and he says a boom mic stand would work find or a backdrop stand and it goes rly low to the drop so it would also work or a newborn backdrop.. You can pick them up off craigslist for 15, I havent actually tired this.. but they are alot those expensive backdrop stands.

Ok here's some pics I've done today. I know I still have lots to learn, but hey I've only had a DSLR for 5 days.   These were all taken with a 50mm 1.8 lens (the only one I have right now), what lens do you guys suggest I get next? I'd like something that would allow me to be up close, and not have the subject take up the whole shot- unless I'm totally using my camera/lens wrong lol. These were all edited in photoshop.

He's so cute! The only CC I really have is to watch your composition. Back up some & try not to cut off parts of his head or limbs. It's hard on the 50 mm though. Brandi has a couple blog posts explaining lenses that would be really helpful when picking your next lens.

Thank you! Yes, I've been having a difficult time, because I like to be close, and I just can't with that lens. I will have to check out those blog posts if I can find them.
