It's been cold there, right? It's chilly here, but I dont think many will be outside, but I'm not sure. It's in the mid 50's here though, so not "horrible"

Well it was.. the last few days have been gorgeous and the day I did her photos was gorgeous (mid 70s). But we have a storm blowing in now and it'll be mid 50s tomorrow but then back to mid 60s. I think we're done with most of the cold for the year.

What sizes are backdrops typically? I saw a tutorial with this paper glued down onto cardboard for a quick & cheap faux floor. I think I'm going to attempt it.

My friend is begging me to do her newborn's photos (who happens to be due on my daughter's birthday) in a month. She insists on paying me but I told her if I were to do them, they'd be 100% free since I haven't done any yet & can't promise her that they will turn out how we hope, so she has a back-up photographer in mind just in case. I'm looking at newborn bean bags now & I'm debating on whether I should buy one or attempt to make one. Also, has anyone done the pvc pipe backdrop stands? & Where you do guys get your blankets & wraps? I have about a month to prepare, give or take. Would it be weird to practice with a baby doll? lol.

Sorry for the millions of questions. I really want this to work out for her. The back-up photographer she has picked really isn't very good (not saying I'm any better, because I don't know yet.. ) but I want to do this right for her.

I'm not great at it, but I usually drape long blankets/colorful things over the bean bags, and then up behind it, clipped to something. The blanket doubles as something to lay on, and a backdrop.

That's what I had in mind!   I wonder if I could just clip the blankets to chairs maybe.. lol.

That's what I do. Just put chairs behind and use those heavy hand clamps.

I know Cheryle has done the PVC stand and someone else as well. I just have a stand I bought off Ebay over 5 years ago. You can get fabric (I get 2 yd pieces) from fabric.com or joann's or hancock, or whatever. For actual throws, check budget stores like TJMaxx, HomeGoods, etc, for cheap ones. Make sure you get stuff that's washable. Is it a boy or a girl?

And yes, you can clip fabric to chairs and you can use a regular bean bag, just put a hair tie on the extra fabric to firm it up.

Well that's a brilliant idea   I don't want to spend tons of money investing in my first newborn shoot just in case I don't even like doing newborns. lol. I know they are really hard work & time consuming.

Did you use a bean bag?

She also has an older son she wants in some pictures too. So I'm trying to decide what to use for those backdrops.

I would suggest for the brother shots, using their bed or something.. Go for a more lifestyle approach with that.

Thanks! All of that is really helpful. It's a boy! She said she likes neutral & earthy colors.

Yeah me too lol. I'd look for like a tan, cream, gray, maybe a gray-green color. When you do your blankets, stack them all on top of one another with puppy pee pads in between so you don't get a huge wet spot all the way through.

I like that idea better than the pictures she sent me for ideas. They're cute.. but he's 2 & I'm not sure how well that will work out with him. lol.

Yeah I'm interested to see what I can get with Zaida.. but she listens pretty well. Better than the average 2 year old.

My nephew was a terror when he was 2. I'm not sure how her son behaves, but I kind of want to ask her to have him somewhere else for the first half of the newborn session (like even in another room just playing with his Dad) so I can focus on the newborn. Is that rude? I just have a feeling it will be really overwhelming.

Do you think Zaida will like being a a big sister?
