I haven't used CS6. Are you having problems because it is set up differently or are have you not done masking yet and are trying to learn it?

I'm trying to learn, I haven't had the need to do it so I haven't bothered learning.

In one of my couple pictures the girls eyes are closed, so I'm grabbing her eyes that are open from a similar picture into the one I like.

I quick selected the area ad dragged into the picture, I clicked the box at the bottom for masking. I selected the brush put the opacity to 100 and tried to paint the picture away. It didn't so I clicked edit in quick mask mode, did nothing.

I use CS5, but I had posted a couple of pictures once when trying to explain masking once to someone. Here is the link where they start: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cheryle_kupsch/5751236106/in/set-72157626281341620/
(It's 5 pictures altogether)

if you are adding color instead of working on the mask, it might be that you have the layer selected for working on but not the mask. Make absolutely sure you have clicked the mask and are working on the mask on that layer and not on the picture on that layer.

And if your mask is white (a revealed mask), you have to use the black brush on the mask to hide parts of it. If your mask is black (a hidden mask), you have to use the white brush on the mask to reveal parts of it. If you use a black brush on a black mask, nothing will happen. And if you use a white brush on a white mask, nothing will happen.

you have a mask on the mask somehow. It should only be one of the white masks on the top layer but you have two of them. Click on the outside layer mask (the far right one and drag it to the garbage can). It may ask if you want to apply it first, just click yes. Then you will only have one mask and if you click on that mask and then use the black brush you should be able to hide what you want to hide from that layer.

Thanks Cheryle! This was my first real session (free of course) & I was so nervous! All of these locations are right behind my house   We didn't have to drive anywhere!
