okay I am getting frustrated, I CANNOT get to picking my own focal point, the only way I can figure out (after reading the manual) is to put it on manual focus and I need it to auto focus. HELP when its in auto focus on Af-a Af-s or Af-c it wont let me choose a focal point

Advice please, the lighting in my house is really low...like REALLY low, an external flash wasnt in my budget this month so I have a flash diffuser over the pop up...Advice for lighting and settings, heres some to give you an idea of what they are coming out like. I am using a 35mm 1.8 with 1/30 shutter speed and f/2.8 with a pop flash with diffuser on it.

I'm not very knowledgeable with anything flash related so I'm not sure. Have you tried making your aperture lower? It helps let in more light although you will have to be more careful with focus. & What's your ISO?

Okay, so my brother's girlfriend is wanting me to take some of her senior pictures for her in the snow tomorrow. I told her I couldn't promise but I would definitely try to give her some good images. Does anyone have any advice about shooting in snow? What time of day should we aim to shoot? Any thing else I should know or any advice about seniors at all?

You're really not gonna be able to get very decent photos with the pop up flash. I never use it.

If you jack that up a pretty good bit, you can use your camera without the flash & still have pretty good exposure usually. Turn your aperture down a little even if it's just to 2.2 & turn your ISO up to like 1000 & just keep adjusting ISO until it looks good. I'm pretty sure your camera handles ISO pretty well.

My d7k is almost always on ISO 1000-1600 in my house, no flash, and like ff1.8-2.8
